Lex Valverde steps into the Spotlight Mix

Share

A new name, same club intent.

Lex Valverde steps into the Data Transmission Spotlight Mix for the first time, drawing a line under the Better Than Lex alias and moving forward under his own surname. It is less about reinvention and more about definition. A tighter frame around who he is and where he is heading.

The foundations are solid. Five formative years in Germany shaped his understanding of European club culture from the inside. Now based in Amsterdam, he has moved between Mexico, Europe and Japan, sharing lineups with Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens and KI/KI. That experience feeds directly into this mix.

The selection sits firmly in the space between tech house and techno. The energy is controlled. Low end is purposeful. Drums are tight and forward. It builds with patience, favouring tension and momentum over quick payoffs.

There is a subtle nod to the past with Better Than Lex – Believe In The Music on Data Transmission, but the direction is unmistakably future-facing. Cuts from Adam Beyer, Victor Ruiz and Carl Cox reinforce the tone, with darker edges balanced by a functional groove.

As first statements go, this feels measured and intentional. No dramatic reset. Just a clearer identity and a mix that reflects it.

Lex Valverde’s Spotlight Mix is live now.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
