Folkness Step Into The Spotlight With A Proper House Workout

Folkness are in control of this week’s Spotlight Mix, and they’ve come armed with exactly the sort of house pressure we like around here.

Made up of long-time friends Norbert and Matt, the duo officially launched Folkness in 2019, but their roots run much deeper. With over 17 years behind the decks and in the studio, they’ve built a sound that pulls from deep house, tech house and disco house without losing sight of the floor.

That work has taken them from Ibiza to major UK festivals and some of Poland’s biggest stages, including Sunrise Festival. Along the way, they’ve shared bills with Claptone, Sam Divine, Todd Terry, Catz ’n Dogz, The Shapeshifters, Illyus & Barrientos, Cassimm and Hannah Wants, so they know a thing or two about reading a room.

Their studio CV is doing plenty of talking too. Releases on Toolroom, Club Sweat, Jackies, Stealth Records and Who Plays have helped push their name across the international house circuit, while their official remix of Groove Armada’s ‘Superstylin’’ for BMG UK in 2023 gave them a proper landmark moment.

Now they arrive on Junior Jack’s Adesso Music with ‘Tong’, a groovy, drum-led house cut built around hip-swinging bongos, bright synth stabs and a bassline that keeps things moving without messing about. It opens this mix in fine style and sets the tone for the hour ahead.

From there, Folkness dig into a rolling selection of club tackle, with Supernova, Nick Curly, Toman, Bontan, Trace and Liquid Rose all in the bag. There’s plenty of bounce, a healthy bit of low-end pressure and enough percussion to keep sweaty basements, rooftops and festival tents happy.
