Frankel & Harper – Welcome Home EP (Freakin303)

Tom Frankel and Dayne Harper dropped their Debut EP on Freakin303 recently, and it’s already received a wealth of support from online fans.

A regular refresh on Beatport’s Techno Top 100 page gives you an idea of how quickly these tracks are being picked up, with the EP recently peaking at no 39 in the Top 50 Releases. No easy feat for a chart that sees thousands of new releases each week.

Frankel’s solo track ‘Stampede’ stands proud alongside house and techno heavyweight Alex Arnout’s remix of ‘Welcome Home’. Both of which are brilliantly diverse club tracks. However, it’s the EP’s title track from Frankel and Harper that’s quickly become our personal favourite.

Eerie, industrial, otherworldly, take your pick. Either way, crazy low end takes center stage in this techno tour-de-force.

Glitchy vocals and punchy drums help to carry a rough and ready bassline, while spacey bleeps and gritty synths wash over the track. Futuristic pads run throughout also, helping to embody the artwork and EP title perfectly. This is definitely one to reach for when the dance demands that boost in energy – a real standout release for the label.

Frankel has also put together a cracking Beatport Playlist to run alongside the release of the EP. It features a variety of heavy techno cuts that he’s been supporting this year, and is “not one for the faint hearted” he quips.

Score: 8.5/10
