Renegade Riddims: Deep Notion

Share

Deep Notion, also known as Adam Cooper, has truly cemented himself as one of the most exciting producing and DJ talents in New Zealand since making his debut in 2016.

Since then, Deep Notion’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable, with releases on RAM Records’ sister label ProgRAM and many other international and domestic labels. Having had tunes showcased at world-leading festivals including Glastonbury, Let It Roll, Boomtown, Hospitality, Beats For Love, and many more, the sky is truly not the limit for Deep Notion.

The high energy and intensity poured into his sets showcases through his production and has earned himself support from some of bass music’s most prominent names such as Bou, Ben Snow, S.P.Y, Document One, Terrence & Philip, Dutta and the Born on Road crew.

His big show mentality has also seen him headline shows in Wellington, Dunedin, Auckland, and Christchurch whilst also playing special guest slots alongside major international artists across the country. The Auckland-based DJ and producer has also made appearances at major NZ summer festivals, such as Rolling Meadows, and has his sights on many more.

Adding to his list of achievements, Deep Notion has also appeared on international and domestic radio waves with guest appearances on Mollie Collins’ show on KissFM, George FM, Pulzar FM, and RauteMusik FM. He has also shared the stage with the likes of AC13, Bou, Dimension, Dirtyphonics, DC Breaks, The Ragga Twins, Matrix & Futurebound, State of Mind, Upgrade, The Upbeats, Tantrum Desire, Teddy Killerz, Gerra & Stone, The Prototypes, Drumsound & Basslinesmith, Trei, Terrence & Philip, Dutta, the Born on Road crew and many more.

As the producer and DJ looks towards the rest of 2022 and 2023, things do not look like they are slowing down as he prepares to showcase an arsenal of new tunes, with backing from major international labels, which will be sure to bring the heat to crowds around the globe…

Speaking of which, his latest single and his debut on DARKMTTR Records ‘Too Far Gone / Dreamer’ dropped today (Friday 2nd September). Grab a copy for your arsenal from here!

Q&A:

Deep Notion cover

Sum up this mix in 10 words…

A culmination of all the styles of DNB I like/represent.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

Favourite track is a new dub of mine played at 27:35. This one has been doing serious damage in some of S.P.Ys latest sets.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

I feel like the diversity in this set is a great representation of my tastes in DNB. Building from my deeper sound, into dancefloor, to some feel-good stuff to finish it off. An hour’s journey through drum & bass.

Tell us about your next EP?

My next EP is out on DARKMTTR Records on 2nd September featuring the tracks ‘Too Far Gone’ & ‘Dreamer’. These two tracks are an introduction to this new style I’ve been working on and also an introduction to further work with DARKMTTR.

What have you got coming up?

So far I have multiple shows in each centre across New Zealand in celebration of my new release on DARKMTTR, spanning across the next couple of months. I can’t wait to dive deeper into this DARKMTTR style sound in these upcoming sets.

When was the last time you actually raved?

New Zealand is going off at the moment for dnb, so we are lucky enough to have a vast amount of shows to rave at. My last proper rave would’ve been a couple of weeks ago at a gig I was headlining in Auckland (NZ). The acts supporting that night were seriously going for it.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

For most people (especially internationally – outside NZ) I am most likely a new name in the scene, so if you hear any of my mixes/music of mine that you are vibing please reach out on my socials! Hope to see you all at a rave in the near future.
