DT853 – Chris Luno

Share

When the sun sets, the Luno rises.

As just that happened one life-altering night in Mainz, Germany – Chris Luno entered a new cosmos called the “rave” and never walked out on it since. Feeling the urge to support the scene, Luno held residences in the Netherlands, while studying the subject of Media Management meticulously. This led him to be picked up by the illustrious duo Tube & Berger and their labels Kittball and ZEHN Records. This is where he quickly began to level up his own production skills and DJ game.

In 2019, Chris Luno started his YouTube mix series and was able to pick up a hefty amount of 50 million views since then. A collaboration with deep house legends Tube & Berger followed, as well as international gigs, for example at the UEFA Champions League Final in Istanbul, Turkey in 2023. Meanwhile, Chris is a full-time touring artist and has played at prestigious venues all over the world including Phonique, Mexico City, Ulu Cliffhouse, Bali, Carbon, Hong Kong, The Garrison, Montreal, Sage Beach, Berlin and many more.

His own productions received industry support by the likes of Diplo, Gorgon City, Nora en Pure, and Claptone and summed up more than 8 million Spotify streams up to date. Furthermore, his music can be found on labels such as Anjunadeep, This Never Happened and Purified Records.

At the end of the day, Luno’s music is not only party-proven but also officially licensed for pre-drinks at your place.

Today, he joins us on the podcast for the first time. Listen to it below, on Mixcloud or iTunes here.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
I only picked tracks that I would consider bangers 🙂
(Alternative: These are successfully road-tested tracks that I’m playing on tour)

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
When recording a mix, I’m spending the most time searching for the first track, as it really has to stand out for me and set the tone for the mix. This intro track is “Makèz & Life on Planets – Downstream”, a laidback house cut with an amazing groove that blends so well with the bassline. Also love that vocal: “lil momaaa spend some time with me”… haha who says that?!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I’ve been playing these tracks during my recent shows over the last weeks e.g. in Canada, Mexico, Ireland & Germany. This is basically an excerpt of how my parties sound like.
From my experience, people have the best time when the music is somewhat uplifting and delivers good vibes… I think this mix is just that! I only picked tracks that I’d consider bangers and that successfully made a room full of people dance!

Tell us about your next EP?
A few months back I did this challenge where I started 20 track ideas in 20 days, which really changed the way I approach music production.  Since then, I’ve finished a lot more music and finally sat down and polished some unfinished projects that were laying on my hard drive for some time.  One of those tracks will be out on November 24th on Sekora and is called “See You Again”

What have you got coming up?
I’ve just finished my Canada tour and will be hanging out in Costa Rica in the next 3 weeks, where I’m doing a songwriting vacation.
After that, the next show is in Nairobi, Kenya on the 6th of December! Can’t wait for that one!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
If you’ve read until here you’re a legend! Send me an DM on insta and I’ll reply
Sending you lots of love from Vancouver and I hope you enjoy this mix!

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
