Scottish DJ and electronic producer KC Lights is one of today’s most exciting artists, known for his irresistible sound that blends bright euphoric house and with deep bass lines lurking below hopeful melody lines.
He’s a multi-instrumentalist whose creativity knows no bounds. He is also garnering popularity under the name of his alternate personality “6AM.” The alias allows him to break from the 4/4 128 belters to have the freedom to create some of the most beautiful euphoric versions of his original songs (and for some others) with more strings-oriented and orchestral versions of the original songs.
Toolroom Records are thrilled to announce that the wait is finally over and the anticipated return of Scotland’s own DJ/Producer KC Lights is here. Titled “Better Times,” the song has already been chosen as the “Hottest Record in the World” by BBC Radio One and is the result of a kinetic collaboration with the talented and widely adored songstress, Lapsley.
“Better Times” is a song that seems to float and soar while encouraging the listener to believe that better times are just around the corner. This magical collaboration has already garnered the pre-release accolades from industry tastemakers, including BBC Radio One’s Danny Howard, KISS, Capital Dance, and Apple’s DanceXL song starter and more. The song’s position as a summer anthem of 2023 feels imminent.
“Better Times” emanates with vibes of happy days, roller skating and dancing with a nimble touch of 70s/80’s disco, funk, and soul but with enough of an edge that you still know its 2023. KC Lights is masterful with his ability to blend these feelings with his recognizable signature sound. While the song acknowledges the essence of the past, it is also crafted to fit the present by becoming a modern, irresistible uplifting tune. It takes you on a time machine through these nostalgic sounds right through to the familiar filtered french house sound pioneered by legendary acts such as Daft Punk and Mojo. The dulcet velvety quality of Lapsley’s emotive vocal fits with this song like a glove. It is so beautifully comfortable as she seems to glide from impossible notes to smooth and stunning heights. With its shimmering production, blissful melodies, and mesmerizing rhythms, “Better Times” encapsulates the spirit of summertime joy that will undoubtedly soundtrack the long summer evenings to come in this year.
“The idea for ‘Better Times’ manifested while I was on the train to London to meet Lapsley for a writing session. I wanted a sound that felt warm and familiar but also new and exciting. Almost immediately, Lapsley & I knew that we had a creative connection. A few hours later, we had written the track. We just knew the nostalgic vibe and sound felt so right. For me, ‘Better Times’ is about letting go of anything weighing you down in life and looking ahead optimistically. Looking ahead into summer, I think this song will be a big moment in my sets.” – KC Lights
KC Lights has sustained a staggering 1.5 million monthly listeners with a track record of commanding the world’s most prestigious stages like Tomorrowland, Creamfields, and more. Delightfully, his warm uplifting sound is loved far and wide as he maintains spins, playlisting, club plays and rotations with the fans and within the industry with artists such as Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Calvin Harris, Fisher, Camelphat, Bloodpop, Skrillex, Claptone, Don Diablo and many more.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
This mix is a window into my sounds of the summer.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Aside from my own records, of course, I’m really loving the new Dombresky tune. It’s a perfect combination of fun and summery disco vibes but still goes off in the club.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I always try and make my mixes relatively unique, they are generally focused around my own records, old and new!
Tell us about your next EP?
All my focus is still on my latest single, “Better Times”, which came out a few weeks ago. It’s a collaboration between myself and the wonderfully talented Lapsley. I’ve had such a positive response since its release and I can’t wait to see it grow throughout the summer!
What have you got coming up?
I’m currently working on some fun remixes and edits of “Better Times” in the studio, so I’m excited to get those out there. I’ve got some big shows I’m looking forward to this summer as well, Pacha, Cafe Mambo & Ushuaia in Ibiza, as well as another US tour and my debut in Berlin at Lollapalooza
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Have a listen to my latest track “Better Times” if you haven’t already and I’ll hopefully see you on the dance floor somewhere this summer!
