DT762 – Jamie Roy

2021 truly belongs to new school-house artist and Scotsman Jamie Roy. In summer, videos of him playing the afterparty at Albania’s Unumn Festival went viral, then again when he played with Patrick Topping at the Main Stage of Amnesia Ibiza’s Croatia Festival.

In October, he hit the number one spot in the Beatport house charts with ‘Organ Belta’, his latest high grade offering on the revered Trick label (which you can grab here). All this comes amidst a busy run of headline gigs at places like Printworks, Studio 338, Do Not Sleep, Terminal V and E1, where he never fails to serve up electrifying sets that take in all shades of house.

Jamie Roy is someone who lives and breathes underground electronic music culture in all its forms. Because of this, he quickly became one of Ibiza’s go-to DJs in 2019 when he held a residency at the legendary Ushuaia for Nic Fanciulli’s ‘Dance Or Die’ events. It is not easy to make an indelible mark in the White Isle, but Jamie did with his cutting edge selections and ability to plot real musical journeys when he DJs.

As a producer, he has landed on the likes of Repopulate Mars, Trick, Unsound, Saved, Kaluki and Under No Illusion. With each and every new EP, Roy shows a subtle evolution of his sound while staying true to his roots. This has paid off, because in 2021, following COVID-19 lockdowns in which Roy honed his skills even further, he signed a global, multi-release record deal with Ultra Records with a much anticipated second single expected before the end of 202q and is set to continue this huge new chapter for Roy.

Whether playing an intense club set at places like Studio 338 or La Terrazza Barcelona, or laying it down for huge crowds on main stages at BPM Festival Costa Rica or Elrow in Glasgow, Roy always knows exactly what record to reach for to make the best connection with his crowd. Winter will bring with it many more headline sets and plenty more essential new tunes from this pivotal house music star. Now having built and secured a truly global platform for himself as an artist, it’s safe to say that Jamie Roy is only set to push on further in the year ahead.

Today, he returns to the podcast for the first time. Listen to it below, on Mixcloud or iTunes here.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
