DT589 – Matchy

A spearhead of the ‘Neo Progressive’ movement – that’s Martin Bley alias Matchy, a leading synonym for modern deep and melodramatic techno and house.

With a profound sense and a highly empathic absorption, the half of the former duo Matchy & Bott sprinkled continuously sales charts and playlists with dozens of significant releases over the past years. A formidable amount of loyal followers, supporters and fans have been built up.

By getting infected to electronic dance music in the scene of the Rhein-Main-area, especially Room 106 in Darmstadt, the ride began. The convergence of Matchy’s music production experiences plus Bott’s skills in diggin’ tracks and DJing was the base for working together as a duo until 2017.  The credibility has grown by having this creative process and changing more into energetic music like tech house and techno, but staying true to himself within diversity.

Moving to techno capital Berlin in 2018 implicated many things: being closer to lots of other electronic music protagonists, daily inspirations by the highly creative environment and finding a new home around the Lauter Unfug crew. Besides building the set up for live performances, more than ten releases on prestigious labels are confirmed for the same year, so the mission to rule the beatport charts and the club scene is in progress.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
My current favs from Afro-, Deep House to Melodic Techno

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
I usually don’t have one favourite track but a couple of tracks I like to play.. also put two new unreleased tracks in there, which I recently produced with some buddies.. really waiting for them to be out there soon.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
A couple of weeks ago I started using the Roland SPD One Electro to add some live elements to my sets.. this time I kept it simple just using the 909 clap of it.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Really enjoyed last weekend’s gig at ARM, Kassel, playing with Moonbootica after a while. The location “Alte Weinkirche” is incredible in an old vault that fits more than 1000 people but I also quite enjoy my Berlin gigs at the moment since I recently just moved there.

What have you got coming up?
Multiple EPs and tracks, at least one EP and a single Track or Remix every month..

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Enjoy the little journey.. always difficult to “pack a nice arc of suspense” in an one hour mix but I’m quite happy with this one and hope the listeners will feel the same 🙂

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
