DT583 – Lex & Wood
Montreal boys Alessandro and Benjamin aka Lex & Wood are a duo at the fore of city’s next generation. The rising producers have already featured on the likes of Armada Subjekt, Eton Messy, Great Stuff Recordings, Rawsome and Stashed Music.
Alessandro and Ben share the same passion for sound and a distinct artistic vision, completing each other in the ideal manner. Ben, the initial producer and previously a drummer with a taste for heavy metal, taught the skills in the studio to Alessandro. While it was the latter, a seasoned spinner, that brought the experience from behind the ones and twos.
Lex & Wood is the medium where their creativity and chemistry is put to work and the recipe is fast proving effective and today, we welcome them to our Podcast series.
Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Dope Grooves to Make You Dab and Bounce All Night.
What’s your personal favorite track on it?
Our personal favorite track on the mix has to be Gotti’s “Harlem” which was recently released on Solid Grooves RAW. Definitely one of our favorite weapons to play at the moment. The tune has such a distinct vibe, vinyl feel and raw percussion which makes it so unique.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The special ingredient in this mix would definitely be the combination of unique percussion grooves with heavy basslines.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
We had the chance to play with the awesome Prok & Fitch at Newspeak, in Montreal! The energy was raw and it was awesome to witness the duo dynamic’s in mixing live, as we’ve been looking up to these guys for years now, and have developed our own duo chemistry, which is very different from mixing solo. It’s all about trust and being in sync with each other! The location (Newspeak) is a blast to play at; that’s where all the Montreal tech & house heads go to party. And lastly, we got to discuss for a good bit with Ben and James (Prok & Fitch). Two of the coolest guys in the game, love the British accent too! Looking forward to sharing the stage again with these lads.
What have you got coming up?
A big summer is right around the corner, with live shows and solid releases! We’ve been sheltering in the studio during the cold Canadian Winter, and we’re ready for a strong season as short sleeves come out. We’ll be playing a bunch locally at our favorite spots in Montreal. You can also expect some new material on Armada Subjekt, a remix for Ellie Cocks on New Violence, as well as a remix for Golden Boy and other releases which we can’t disclose at the moment (shhh). On top of all the beat cooking, stay tuned for our Defunct livestreams every month and the upcoming episodes of our newly launched Defunct podcast!
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Well first of, we’re thrilled to feature this mix on Data Transmission! We’d love to know what the readers think. Hit us up on Instagram, Facebook, SoundCloud or even through email; always puts a smile on our faces to get messages from people saying they listen to our music! Even if you’re looking for some feedback on your latest tech banger, shoot it through we’ll gladly help a fellow out with some constructive feedback.
