466 – MANIK

New York, New York! So good they named it twice… Well, if that’s how we’re naming things of exceptional quality then welcome to MANIK, MANIK’s official DT podcast as the Queens native serves up the latest edition of our long running mix series.

Having burst onto the scene back in 2011 with a series of blistering releases on Hot Creations, Culprit and Ovum, the inimitable New Yorker has been either in our head or on our playlist ever since.

Mixed ahead of busy start to 2016 that sees him land on Josh Wink’s Ovum and Ellen Allien’s Bpitch Control before delivering his much anticipated sophomore album, the new year seems destined to see Mr. MANIK continue the rich vein of form that first brought him to our attention.

Masterfully maintaining intensity throughout (we expected nothing less), this 60 minute workout was just what we needed to help us get over the various Christmas parties we attended last week, although we’ll admit it’s already got us eagerly eyeing up Friday night!

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Fire house and techno music for a workout with wifey.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
I think my favorite track on the mix is the first tune. Classic house from Fresh & Low.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I tossed a bit of olive oil and balsamic on the bread.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
I would have to say my favorite party recently was the Mixmag 4th of July party here in LA. Super fun day party that stretched into the evening. Then Till Von Sein came by and we went b2b randomly.

What have you got coming up?
New music coming from me on Ovum in late January- my new track features Cari Golden on a spoken word that has been going down super well for me. Additionally, I have a new EP on Bpitch Control coming at some point and then a few other things in the works right now. Also, I’ve just started working on the first steps towards my new album – my first in 4 years. Finally, my new side project with option4, ‘909 Til Infinity’ just dropped its debut EP called ‘Bee Dee’. It’s been getting a lot of love.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Just want you all to know I love basketball. The NBA makes me happy. Thank you.
