431 – Dan Curtin

Share

Don’t call it a comeback! Unorthodox techno producer Dan Curtin has relaunched of his Metamorphic label and guess what? We’ve only gone and got him on the bloody DT podcast to celebrate!

Having cut his teeth on the Cleveland circuit, Curtin’s impressive discography dates back to 1992, with his first releases for Detroit’s 33RPM Records and Belgium’s Buzz Records quickly establishing him a fierce reputation for his work in the studio. Now based in Berlin, Dan has gradually extended his reach across the globe appearing at many of the world’s best clubs.

As astute in the DJ booth as the studio, Dan is now ramping up his production game for 2015 with a new EP featuring African vocalist Habida on Turquoise Blue set to follow the release of ‘Space Pressure’ EP which is out now on his own Metamorphic imprint.

Dan explores a wide range of four-to-the-floor beats in his podcast mix, journeying through a variety of driving techno numbers before venturing into slightly more abstract soundscapes. Masterfully maintaining intensity throughout, Dan has us locked in from start to finish. We can’t imagine a better way to start the week although his selections have already got us eagerly eyeing up the coming weekend.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Living, thriving, and driving organic space techno and nothing else.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Paul Mac – “Last Gasp”. Love that whole EP really.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Spontaneity.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Chalet Club Berlin, one of those gigs where you go in not knowing what to expect on a weeknight and then having the place packed full of people going mad completely up for what I was doing.

What have you got coming up?
This spring I’m focusing on the relaunch of my Metamorphic Recordings label as well as releasing EPs on labels like Turquoise Blue, Seventh Sign, Metamorphic of course, a reissue of my track, “The Path” on The Healing Company, remixes for DJ Wild on his W records and for D-Knox on EPM Music. That’s all between now and June. Stay tuned…

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Thanks for taking the time to rock this mix… play loud, enjoy, and of course… question everything.
