Get ready to sweat.
Barbuto rolls into the NUDE booth with a freight train of peak-time techno, built for strobe-lit basements and sunrise rooftops. He’s not new to this. With nearly three decades behind the decks, the Texas-born, Sydney-based don has seen the scene evolve and still commands it with turntable precision and crowd-locking energy.
His sets aren’t just mixed, they’re performed. Think vinyl mentality with USB firepower. Tight blends, deep drops, and that classic build-and-batter technique that locks you in and doesn’t let go. It’s why he’s torn up rooms like Coda Toronto, White Rabbit Berlin, and Space Miami.
Barbuto’s sound is all high-octane momentum. No fluff. Just throbbing low-end, slick transitions, and groove-heavy weapons that hit hard and stay with you. On this one, he rinses everything from Drunken Kong’s rolling bounce to the muscular grit of Joyhauser and HI-LO, plus his own slammer ‘Bounce’, and fresh Mavic Music gear from Ben Mason and Trent Hadid.
This mix oozes that proper dancefloor pressure. You can feel the sweat. You can taste the lasers. Whether you’re warming up a club system or rinsing your headphones on the commute, this one bangs.
Today, he joins the NUDE Techno podcast for an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud and Mixcloud.
Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Super fun, crowd-pleasing, stink face techno with zero dull moments.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Has to be Lies by the young Aussie weapon, Ben Mason. Big tune.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I line up the hooks and chorus phrases so it stays punchy, keeps the energy up, and there’s never a flat spot.
Tell us about your next EP?
I’m working on a track that’s bang-on my usual style. fun, upbeat techno made to get people moving. With the DJ school and 3-4 gigs a week, I only get about 10 hours to write tunes, so it’s quality over quantity right now. If you jump on my IG, you’ll find a few teasers I’ve been testing out and getting feedback on.
What have you got coming up?
Honestly, feeling super lucky to be this busy. I’ve got about a gig a week at the moment — this week it’s Sydney Office Hours, then a big one for T1000 and Analog on June 7. July 11, my label’s teaming up with Oracle for a party at the brand new Aura Nightclub in Sydney — 1500 capacity, powered by L-Acoustics, can’t wait for that one. Also, my label Mavic Music just hit its 7th year, over 400 singles deep now and the momentum’s building with some killer music and demos coming through.
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Yeah, just stay positive. The industry’s in a bit of a transition, and yeah, social media’s kinda hijacked the focus from pure DJing and producing, but if you stay upbeat, back yourself, and keep aiming where you wanna go, that’s where you’ll end up. You get what you focus on, whether you realise it or not.
