NUDE159: Marhu

Share

Championed as an ‘emerging act’ on Beatportal’s radar in 2022, Marhu is one of Belgium’s most promising international producers and DJs.

Combining forces between dark energetic and powerful techno, she emits intense and gripping auras. Her dynamic style is crafted from both obscured and aggressive sounds with an innate sense of rhythm and compositional elements that burst forth with relentless energetic expression in both her production and performances.

Known for her ability to produce dark techno with acid tones, Marhu’s first release came out in January 2021 via ASYS’ Fe Chrome, a sublabel of Fe Records founded with a clear vision on how to enrich and inspire the techno scene. She’s had two releases on the label since; ‘Wildfire’ and ‘Hooked’ – the latter of which was in collaboration with label boss ASYS, intertwining the two techno creators’ styles to develop an acid-driven, lively cut with stomping rave energy.

Marhu has also had her productions showcased on Belgian imprint, Arkham Audio with a single release in 2021 and an EP in 2022 that was centered around thumping kick drums and aggressive sounds – all tied together by intoxicating acid synths and featured remixes from techno household names such as D.A.V.E The Drummer. Her dark techno beats are travelling rapidly around the globe with her tracks being no stranger to Berghain’s sound system along with picking up support across the media from Mixmag to Data Transmission and many more. She’s shared her unapologetic selecting skills throughout the world with gigs at Extrema Outdoor Belgium, Dour Festival, Rex Club Paris, Blasphemy Bogota, Eliptica Cali, Love Parade Berlin, Tanzhaus West Frankfurt, Gotec Karlsruhe, 1988 Rennes, Anomalie Berlin and Circus Batumi, as well as two trips to Berlin’s best-known bathroom, Hör for live streams that have amassed over a hundred thousand views.

Marhu’s unparalleled energy behind the booth has earned her a place in the upper echelons of the scene and as a result has become more and more sought after on dancefloors and festivals all over the world. Forthcoming dates include gigs at Fuse club Brussels, Tanzhaus West Frankfurt, Paradox Club Augsburg, Club Vaag Antwerp, Horizon festival Nice, Solar festival NL and Complex Maastricht with her first allnighter to name a few. Keep an eye on the charts also as her new EP Through My Veins just got released on He.She.They.

Today, she joins the NUDE Techno podcast, with an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…

A high energetic mix of what I’m all about !

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

My latest release “Through My Veins” on HE.SHE.THEY Records. I really love when the 303 goes wild during the breakdown haha

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

I’m proud of the progression of this mix! I try to tell a story with each set I like when It flows beautifully and I think the selection of these 25 diverse tracks make it interesting. For example, I play this old remix from 12 years ago Yello – The race (Uwe Heinrich Adler Remix) which I absolutely love to surprise people in the middle of my set with it haha. Then I play this nice groovy acid track “Go with the Flow ” from Justice which was released on Voxnox last year. The whispering vocal “Just go with the flow” is sick

I hope you will enjoy this mix as much as I did recording it !!

Tell us about your next EP?

I can already tell you that A*S*Y*S and myself are currently working on our second collaboration track called “Fever Dream”. It will be out by the end of 2023.

After the success of “Hooked” in March 2022 it’s just about time to join forces again and oh my god it’s going to be a killer tune! But hey, quality takes time !!!!

And don’t worry I’m working on more Marhu Tracks, more Collaborations and more Singles

What have you got coming up?

The launch of my new concept Spark with a brand new Radio Show and a Spotify Playlist! I aim to extend the musical journey for my audience beyond my live performances. In my new Spotify playlist, I select each month a mix between raw, hypnotic, peak time, old school, groovy and maybe a few more harder tunes. But, I don’t want to follow the trend and have all these hard techno tracks with the same rave synthesiser that all sound the same!! For me, this is Tik Tok techno !!

I want to present a real qualitative selection with diverse styles and influences !!

Also, each month I’ll be presenting a one-hour episode for Spark Radio on Soundcloud and YouTube! I love the idea of sharing my music tastes and influences through a Radio Show that people can enjoy at home, during their workouts, at raves or wherever they want. I will play a little differently than for a festival or club performance.

But overall It makes me so cheerful to see the enthusiasm and curiosity surrounding Spark and this is just the beginning

Btw, next week I’ll be touring in Italy for the very first time. I’ve been dreaming of the Italian crowd for a very long time and now oh yes oh yes it’s finally happening and the first city is Florence yayyy let’s gooo !!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

Yesss I want to say let the music ignite the good energy within you !! Stay true to yourself. I believe that quality always finds its way And I hope we can connect somewhere on the dance floor Follow my adventures on my socials !! Love you all xxxx

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
