NUDE129: Markantonio

Markantonio is one of Italy’s most accomplished electronic music artists.

Italy’s Naples region is a breeding ground of creativity that has spawned many of today’s most exciting young techno artists. With a career that spans over two decades, Markantonio is one of the people who pioneered techno in Naples and inspired today’s younger generation.

Still at the top of his game, and one of Italy’s most respected DJ/Producers, Markantonio remains one of Europe’s most in-demand artists who also has a large following in South America.

Flying all over the world to play gigs at festivals and super clubs, his underground style us focused mainly around techno, but he is an exceptional DJ also known for incorporating other genres such as house and melodic. His legendary Boiler Room set in Naples is just one example of his mastery behind the decks.

In addition to releasing on other labels, he also heads up his own imprint AnalyticTrail. Markantonio has been prolific on his own imprint, and recently he celebrated the 100th release on AnalyticTrail with an EP of his own music that also featured remixes by Kaiserdisco and Spartaque.

AnalyticTrail has been one of the most vital labels in techno, and included in its back catalogue are tracks and remixes by Paco Osuna, Spektre, UMEK, Perc, Wehbba, The Advent and Cari Lekebusch. The label also signed early releases from the likes of Roberto Capuano, Joseph Capriati and Luigi Madonna who following Markantonio’s support, are now some of the biggest names in techno.

Today, he returns to the NUDE Techno podcast, with an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…

Basically, this mix is what I love to play right now in my Techno sets. I’m definitely back to my old musical route and I can define it a shaking, jacking, funky Groove with some fat and dark atmosphere. I think this is what a dancefloor needs to have a proper dance.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

I like all the tracks in the mix but if I have to choose one is “Machine” I play this track in every set and the reaction of the crowd is incredible

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

Best special ingredient in this set is the funky groove!

Tell us about your next EP?

“Neapel”, my upcoming EP out on EI8HT is the perfect expression of what actually I love to produce and play. I guess It has an old techno vibe with a modern touch. I’m really happy about all the tracks.

What have you got coming up?

After this EP I will Release in November a new project in collaboration with the English rising talent “Drumsauw” down the label “On Edge Society” titled “Foundation”. You can hear in the mix the EP title track.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
