NUDE024: Andres Campo

Share

Andres Campo’s already flourishing career is experiencing a swift and dramatic upturn. Already one of Spain’s most beloved DJs and producers, his is now a star worldwide. His quality and exciting music; both as a DJ, including his Florida 135 residency alongside many international shows, and as a producer. He’s signed to Second State, Intec, MOOD, Odd Recordings, Mindshake and RUKUS in the last year alone. 2019 saw him expand his range to record label co-founder, with the launch of his EI8HT label with close friend Eats Everything.

Campo loves many forms of music and endeavours to find what the floor needs in every gig, letting that determine what he plays; from delivering a groove to an acid cut to heavy techno. Choosing the obscure over the obvious, no Andres set is the same, and he delights in surprising clubbers by playing tracks and mixes that come from deep within his record collection. With an abundance of musical influences, his love affair with music began with his mum’s Bee Gees and disco vinyl records, followed by listening to pirate radio shows, and cassettes handed down from his big brother. He began as a teenage DJ playing trance and acid, taking as his inspiration 90s DJ heroes and the sounds of Coliseum and his current residency Florida 135.

As well as his undoubted brilliance as music producer and DJ, Andres Campo is an engaging, amusing, open-hearted character who likes to connect with a crowd, evoking their love and affection as well as appreciation (though if anyone is thinking of inviting him for dinner or a beer, make it gluten-free please.) He draws packed crowds on the dance floor, and his many followers are true fanatics.

Today, he joins the NUDE Techno podcast, with an hour of Techno. Listen to it below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.

Q1. Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
An intense journey to make your body boil 🙂

Q2. What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Maybe it’s the one from Gaston Zani. ‘Something 4 Your Mind’. Gaston is a good friend of mine and this track is a bomb. Its actually an exclusive on this mix, as its going to be released on my label which I run alongside Eats called EI8HT. So, stay tuned for updates when you can expect it to drop.

Q3. What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I’ve recreated a mix similar to that which I played at Input in Barcelona before we all went into Lockdown. I felt the need to make a mix which took me back to this club and the atmosphere of that night. I am really missing the clubs, so this mix was fun to make. Just needed the visuals and a crowd in my home studio.

Q4. What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Hahaha well that’s hard to remember now, as it all feels like such a long time ago that we were able to party, travel and everything associated with it. But I guess I would have to say the 2 festivals I plays in Colombia in the same trip. One was in Medellin and the other in Cali – I love that country, it’s a magical place and can’t wait to go back.

Q5. What have you got coming up?
Well, not all that much as you can imagine now that we are all unable to travel anywhere. I have used this time to get some new music done, and I do have a remix for Drunken Kong from Tokyo on their second album release, which is out on Tronic in July. Eats and I are working on the release schedule for EI8HT, and we have a really nice EP from Black Gil/White Girl on the 3rd July. We are looking forward to welcoming them as the newest members of the EI8HT family.

Q6. And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Just a thank you to everyone who supports me, and that I hope everyone is safe, staying sane and keeping happy in all this madness. It won’t be long until we are reunited.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
