Video Premiere: Colder – Many Colours

Pioneer of coldwave and darkwave, Colder, returns to the album game following a 10-year hiatus. The new LP, Many Colours, is set to drop November 6th via Bataille Records, and we’ve secured an exclusive premiere of the official lyric video to the title-track!

With his 2003 debut album, Again, drawing comparisons with Boards Of Canada, Massive Attack and New Order, we’re expecting big things from Many Colours. But, after such success, why wait so long? “Well, I had other things to do,” Colder tells Data Transmission. “For a long time I didn’t record any electronic music, mostly because I didn’t feel the wish to do so. I went back to it two or three years ago and ‘Many Colours’ is somehow a first result of this renewed interest.”

Continuing, Colder explains how ‘Many Colours’ was the first track to be recorded, and set the tone for the rest of the release. “It started actually more as an exercise than anything else,” says the Frenchman. “On one hand I had a few lyrics which were actually a cut up of some dialogues coming from the Japanese movie “Jigoku”, from the director Nobuo Nakagawa, a story about some thugs who reach the gates of hell … although very simple, I liked the fact that they were very abstract, opening many interpretations. On another hand, I had this set of sound I’ve been playing with for the last few weeks, mixing some analog gear, and some old rompler from the ’90s, all sequenced together in a kind of non-linear way.”
