Throwing Shade

We’ve had our eye on Nabihah Iqbal for a while now. Better known by her musical moniker of Throwing Shade, the NTS Radio host first cropped up on our radar when she landed on DT favourite Kaseem Mosse’s Ominira before going own to further impress on Happy Skull and home of the likes of Patten, Grimes and Forest Swords, No Pain In Pop.

Having been tipped for a big 2016 by well, pretty much everyone she looks set to live up to her undoubted potential in the coming months and further leap into the lime light with a five track release for resurgent London based outlet Ninja Tune, March 4th.

Titled ‘House Of Silk’ the EP sees the Human Rights enthusiast address the pitfalls of social media, with lead track ‘hashtag IRL’ taking aim at what she calls the ironic “anti-social reality of social media,” with her deliberately “repetitive, robotic and melancholy vocals”  symbolising “the relentlessness with which the internet now dictates our lives and how  “our thoughts are watered down to a common denominator of hashtags, selfies and internet-speak acronyms.”
