The Jungle / Drum & Bass scene mourns Skibadee
Yesterday (Sunday 27th February) the Jungle / Drum & Bass scene lost one of the greatest ever MCs, Skibadee. Not much is known about the circumstances surrounding the loss of Skiba but the news has devasted the whole scene. Thousands of tributes have poured in to salute one of the nicest and humblest of artists who was a real trailblazer and carved a space in music for others like him to follow.
Skibadee’s career dates back to around 1993, the era that is widely revered as the very beginning of Jungle and Drum & Bass. He alongside people like Stevie Hyper D were at the forefront and he was heard all over pirate radio long before he was seen on a stage. Following a residency on legendary pirate radio station Kool FM, Skibadee’s profile in Jungle / Drum & Bass continued to grow, leading him to win awards over the years for “Best MC” from Knowledge, 1Xtra and Drum & Bass Arena.
In more recent years he formed a longstanding collaboration with Shabba D to form SAS, they then grew into the supergroup SASASAS with DJs Phantasy and Macky Gee and MCs Harry Shotta and Stormin.
He is the second member of SASASAS to fall with Stormin losing his battle with cancer just a few short years ago.
Skibadee was aged just 47 and had so much more to give. Our thoughts and love go to all of his family, friends and SASASAS brothers.
RIP Skibadee – another soldier fallen all too soon. Thanks for the music and memories, your legacy will live on.
“Deal with the matter. Deal with it proper.” – MC Skibadee
