Shigeto Establishes New Jazz Quartet, High Risk

mainstay Shigeto has announced the formation of a new jazz band called High Risk.

The concept was originally born at the Red Bull showcase in 2014, when Shigeto performed a jazzy solo drum-piece live. From there, renowned trumpeter Dave Douglas got onboard, and bassist Jonathan Maron and drummer Mark Guiliana were drafted in to complete the set up.

The group are set to release a self-titled album of  “all composed… and all improvised” tracks via Douglas’ label Greenleaf Music. “This is completely different from the processes that go on in my other bands,” explains Douglas. “And at the same time it’s totally the same: a bunch of highly skilled individuals who bring themselves and their personality and their skills to the table, to attack these ideas and materials that I bring into the session.”
