There are few outfits within electronic music spoken about in such hushed and revered tones as Detroit’s Underground Resistance. Such was the influence of the politically charged collective of techno innovators to the scene that over two decades on its members and former members still continue to have a considerable impact. Thus when the likes of Messrs Mills, Hood, Banks and Rolando speak we tend to listen.
Thus we were as pleased as we were excited to report that the Edinburgh based DJ Rolando had announced the formation of a new imprint entitled Roland Rocha Records or R3 for short. Currently working out of Scotland the veteran launched the new label with the distinct aim of giving himself the “artistic freedom to put music out in the right context, with the right timing, and to maintain the ultimate control of his own work.”
Naturally the label’s opening gambits have been from Rolando himself in the form of the 3 track Juu EP and the similarly excellent Wheesht EP which will now be followed the impressive FGR EP which drops at the end of the month. With recent 5 Steps guest Rolando at the helm this is an imprint we were expecting big things from on the techno front and we’re delighted to see the label more than live up to its billing.
