House Heads keeps doing what it does best: disco house with proper bottom end, no filler. On 26th June the label brings in a new name to do exactly that. Parker Gordon makes his House Heads debut with ‘Disco Thing’, and it’s the kind of single that earns a label’s attention on the first listen.
Gordon’s route into this was the usual one done properly. He started DJing around Soho and Vauxhall, the kind of rooms where you learn what actually works at 1am, before moving into production to build out his own sound. Releases on Wh0 Plays and Wh0 Worx followed, each one leaning further into the funky, disco-tinged house that’s become his signature. ‘Disco Thing’ is the most confident version of that sound yet.
The title isn’t subtle, and it doesn’t need to be. A disco bassline drives the whole thing forward while a saxophone hook loops round the top, doing the job a good sax line always does on a house record: adding swagger without overcomplicating anything. There’s a spoken vocal running through it too, dropped in at the right moments rather than fighting for space. Classic house ingredients, put together by someone who clearly knows which ones matter.
This is a record built for rooms that are already moving. Rooftops at golden hour, basements three hours into a set, anywhere the crowd wants groove over noise. It doesn’t chase a drop. It just keeps the bassline locked and lets the saxophone do the talking.
House Heads expanding its catalogue with Parker Gordon makes sense. The label’s never been about chasing trends, it’s about cuts that work on a system that’s been running all night, and ‘Disco Thing’ fits that brief exactly. For a debut on the label, that’s a serious calling card.
