Luke Solomon and Justin Harris have announced the grand return of their beloved Music For Freaks imprint.
The pair have always been musical soul-mates, and following the release of Psych!, their first album in 11 years, during 2014, Luke and Justin felt the time was right to return to the place that made them who they were throughout the ’90s and ’00s.
“The label was always about trying to do something different when the mainstream of house was getting a bit ‘samey’. There’s so much ‘noise’ in the industry at the moment and a lot of it sounds exactly the same,” explains Justin via press release. To counter this, the duo plan to round up current producers who they believe truly understand the label’s ethos, and “let them loose on tracks old and new.”
Thus Music For Freaks returns EP from the vaults, featuring remixes by Ricardo Villalobos and Tuff City Kids, and already has work in the pipeline from Soul Clap, Argy and Mat Playford to Matthew Krysko, Honey Dijon, The Martinez Brothers, Wolf & Lamb and Djebali. “There’s some brilliant lost tapes amongst them ready to be reworked,” says Justin. “Music for Freaks and Freaks have always had a timeless feel to their music and for newly relevant and hugely established artists to get on board with us for the relaunch has been a wonderful testament to that.”
Freaks‘ Let’s Do It Again Part 1 EP will drop August 24th on vinyl, with a full digital release following on September 25th.
