Be honest, who knows what the word ataxia means? Well depending on the context your answer should be either “the loss of full control of bodily movements” or a Detroit duo wo coincidentally often induce just that with their blistering DJ sets.
Having traded the Motor City for the Big Apple at the tail end of last year, 2015 saw Ataxia kick off an exciting new chapter in their sonic narrative, serving up impressive efforts for likes of Connaisseur Recordings and Touch Of Class whilst maintaining an intense touring schedule that saw them peddle their wares at some of North America’s hottest nightspots and make multiple appearances at festivals Movement, Moogfest, BPM, Burning Man, WMC, SXSW and Mutek.
Showing no sign of letting up anytime soon, the pairing have recently announced a return to Matt Tolfrey’s esteemed Leftroom imprint and to celebrate have provided us with an exclusive mix ahead of a series of performances at this year’s Art Basel expo on Miami Beach.
“This mix is a live recording from our set at Carl Craig and Matthew Dear’s Detroit Loves Subversions event at Verboten StageONE this past September” Ataxia explain. “The Michigan-only vibe was on lockdown with Octave One, Kevin Saunderson, Kenny Larkin, Stacey Pullen, Magda, Gaiser, Erno…you get the drift. It was an honor to be cast alongside such legends from our hometown.”
So, if you’re not lucky enough to be able to catch the duo in Miami this weekend, we’ve got the next best thing in the shape of this hour long mix. If you are fortunate enough to be in the Magic City you can find details of how you can see Ataxia here, here and here!
