2013 was certainly the year EDM seemed to arrive in Las Vegas with the opening of several new super-clubs offering a souped up version of EDM culture as Nevada played host to a string of the scenes biggest international names. It now appears that Sin City mega-club Hakkasan will be further upping the ante for 2014 with the unveiling of Afrojack, Above & Beyond, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano and W&W as the latest additions to their stellar resident artist roster. Speaking on his defection from Wynn institution XS Afrojack told Billboard I’ve been home for four years at XS where I had a great time, but Hakkasan provided me with the option to try something new in a new venue, so I’m looking forward to trying a new kind of party there.” Also returning with be international acts Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Hardwell and Steve Aoki in arguably the most formidable stable of EDM resident DJs ever assembled by a solitary club.

One name noticeable by its absence however is Canadian agitator Deadmau5 who will not be returning to the Vegas nightspot this year after making a decision to scale back his ‘Unhooked’ persona and develop an all new live show.  With such a commitment made to this years line-up it appears that Las Vegas looks set to become be a landmark in the electronic music landscape for the foreseeable future.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
