Chelmsford’s favourite son, Gold Panda will release his next album, ‘Good Luck And Do Your Best’, via Berlin label City Slang on May 27th.

Derwin Schlecker’s third full studio effort, the album’s arrival will precede a series of new live shows this summer, that see him touch down in London for an album launch party before embarking upon a summer tour of European festivals.

“The album was recorded at home in Chelmsford, but I had that visual inspiration or documentation from Japan,” the producer recalls when thinking back to his trip to the Far East with photographer Laura Lewis. “So it was a look back. If you go in those months, Japan has this light that we don’t get here. It’s hard to explain. You know how LA has this dusk feeling? – that orange light that makes the place glow, and the neon signs? Well, Japan has this… at certain times of the year, it has this filter on stuff. So when we went the first time, there were a lot of pink and green colours. Mainly the buildings and cars and the people, and I think Laura captured those colours really well.”

Having finished recording his album, Derwin took the songs to fellow musician DT favourite Luke Abbott to mix down at the Border Community man’s cosy studio in Norwich, which is something he feels translates to the final product. “It has a homely feel,” he explains. “The tracks were made at home and they were mixed at Luke’s studio, so throughout the process, there’s always been access to family and your local surroundings. And banana bread.”
