As you may have guessed we love a good remix competition here at DT. Yes, sometimes we just get the urge to hear something completely different and listen to something wherein we have no idea what’s coming in next and it’s at times like these we turn to you the great general public to introduce us to the next big thing. Now one of the best ways we can think of that hidden gems are unearthed and new talent thrust from the bedroom into the international spotlight is the humble remix competition and we enjoy breaking new talent so much that we have one running with esteemed D&B label CIA Recordings at the moment hoping to find the next Andy C or Calibre.
Drum and bass not really your thing? Worry not young producer as we aren’t the only outfit giving up and coming producers the chance to deliver imaginative reworks with cuban rum maker Havana Club inviting DJs, producers and music enthusiasts to remix a track for a chance to spend ten days in Havana producing and recording original tracks alongside Cuban musicians under the expert guidance of the renowned Gilles Peterson.
To enter, contestants simply visit www.havanaculturamix.com and follow instructions to submit their remix of the track ‘Agita’ (Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura Band featuring El Micha and Osdalgia). They may choose between using their own remixing software or the online tool available on the website. In order to increase their chances of making it to the final round, participants are encouraged to share their remixes with friends and get votes. Finalists will be chosen by public vote and a jury made up of music industry professionals and Havana Club. Gilles Peterson will then select the group of winners that will travel to Havana.
Gilles Peterson says: “I’ve been lucky enough to work in Cuba with Havana Cultura and make four albums with not only the new generation of Cuban musicians, but some legends of the scene. I’m excited about Havana Club Cultura Mix. I can’t wait to collaborate with talented producers from around the world and some of Cuba’s finest musicians in one of the world’s music capitals. Winners can expect to make music that they will never, ever regret!”
Entries open on 5th February 2014 and close on 31st March 2014. For more information on visit www.havanaculturamix.com
