codec is a device or computer program capable of encoding or decoding a digital data stream or signal or depending what your into a fast rising duo hailing from Winchester who were then plucked out of obscurity whilst living in East London by RacknRuin’s Black Butter Records, received big recognition from the likes of Laurent Garnier and T. Williams and are now working on more bass fuelled house to entertain the masses in the coming months. So with the hype train well and truly having left the station we now share with you an exclusive remix by the pairing of WRHSmusic label bosses Unit7’s track ‘Down.

For those less than familiar with Unit7 they are a London based duo which along with their label sprang out warehouse space the pairing discovered in their first year of university and went on to push boundaries and pay homage to the foundations of the entire electronic music scene as they explain:

“The label WRHSmusic is uncompromising – it takes the electronic music back to first principles – the Warehouse vibe and aesthetic. We aren’t old or lucky enough to remember the original Warehouse raves, but we feel a deep nostalgia for that time like some sort of shared memory or dream. WRHSmusic is us closing our eyes and trying to recreate that idea now with the ways things are in this era. It allows us to release music, programme parties and curate performances that all have this strong vision about them.”

Forthcoming from the label is the imminent arrival of Codec’s ‘Feel’ available for download on 14th April via Beatport as the duo’s second release on the imprint. To celebrate the release and Codec playing our Data Transmission stage at Dreamscape at MK Bowl on Saturday 16th August we’ve hooked up with the WRHSmusic crew to premiere Codec’s remix of co-label bosses Unit 7’s  track ‘Down’.

Getting us in the mood for the weekend early this rework has formed part of the early soundtrack of our day here at DT HQ and we’re sure you’ll love it too.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
