Daft Punk have stormed this weeks UK top 40 with their new single ‘Get Lucky’. Well we didn’t expect that. Well ok we did but that doesn’t make us any less pleased that the helmet donning French duo have finally secured top billing in this weeks the UK chart for the first time. After claiming the iTunes number one spot in no less than 46 countries and breaking spotify records for opening day streams it should come as little surprise to most that their disco infused vibes featuring Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams have captured the public imagination in such a way.

The French outfit’s next best selling single came all the way back in 2000 for the anthemic ‘One More Time’ but with dance music currently on such a hot run in the mainstream charts at the moment, – the previous two number 1 selling singles being from Rudimental and Duke Dumont respectively- ‘Get Lucky’ was always destined to outdo it’s predecessor after selling 155,000 copies last week.

On the single reaching the coveted number 1 position Nile Rodgers said “The relationship between myself and Daft Punk was just so unbelievably right. So, the fact that it has gone to Number 1 is humbling. It is extraordinary.”

Classy stuff Nile.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
