The electronic music empire is a divided place. Common knowledge dictates it’s Berlin for the technorati and mismatched-shoe bloggers, Ibiza for decades-established superclubbing, Las Vegas for that peculiar breed of Elite-EDM ers. That leaves Croatia something of a mystery. There’s been plenty of speculation- that it’s ‘the new Ibiza’, that it’s ‘better than Ibiza’, or that it’s ‘the new Magaluf’ – and it’ll be all over in a decade. The legends surrounding Croatia grow year on year, largely because, much like the Moon in the ‘50s, Soviet Russia in the 80s, or Lady Gaga – not many people have been there for any length of time. Data Transmission – underground electronic music experts, pioneers of party hotspots, (and according to a Google image search – authorities on low-level satellite transmitters) have decided to fix this. We politely declined offers for a season in Ibiza, a season in Mallorca, a season in the US and a season in the Crimea (for real) to get to the heart of this mystery. We’re sending one of our writers to be the first journalist ever to do a ‘Season’ in Croatia.
Three months. 13 festivals. You can check out where he’s headed by looking at our Croatia Guide.
Ally Byers informed us that volunteering to spend a quarter of his year in the former Yugoslavia was a project born out of a passion for the unknown, a need for discovery, and in no way linked to his owing an ex-girlfriend rather a lot of money. He’s our very own first chimp into space.
We’ll be doing daily updates, words, videos, interviews here at Data Transmission.
