It seems that the global influence of the White Isle on electronic music cannot be overstated at the moment with an ever increasing amount of Ibiza based institutions branching out with exciting new ventures across the world.

Following on from news that Space would be landing in New York alongside Sankey’s long awaited Big Apple venture and the arrival of Ibiza’s iconic Café del Mar in Sydney comes news that the Café will be opening a new venue Down Under; this time in Melbourne.

According to The Music Network  Australian Café del Mar founder Michael Vale is planning to open a 500 capacity ‘sunset bar’, featuring multiple bars and a café over three levels, in the inner-Melbourne bayside suburb of St Kilda later in the year.

Rumoured to include an open air rooftop space and digital screens showing Ibiza sunsets in winter months we think this may be a venue that makes plenty of waves within the scene in the Southern hemisphere when it opens later on in the year.

Speaking with The Music Network, Vale explained “Café del Mar in Sydney is what I call an urban model for a corporate market. Café del Mar in Melbourne will clearly be a beach club, a far more casual atmosphere and far more true to the Café del Mar in Ibiza.”

With plans afoot to launch the new venture with an opening performance from an Ibiza ‘renowned DJ’  and the production of Melbourne’s own series of Café del Mar CDs it appears that exciting times lay ahead for Vale, Café del Mar and Melbourne.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
