The weather may have been bitterly cold, but Data Transmission still has nothing but warm memories of last year’s edition of Bloc Festival as they made their return to their spiritual home of Minehead on a grey Friday in March. By way of several trains and a rather long bus ride, we arrived to join thousands of dance music aficionados at the seaside resort, welcoming back one of the few bastions of hope for underground festivals. Well now we’ve just received the sad news that the festival’s fire in the universe is about to be extinguished; the 2016 edition of the Bloc Weekender will be its last.
Speaking on their decision to end the festival, the organisers have issued an official statement which you can check out below. So long Bloc, you’ll be missed…
“After ten glorious years – this is it. It’s the final one and we won’t be doing any curtain calls, encores, reunion tours or one-last-jobs.
We think that this lineup and the show we have planned is a fitting, powerful crescendo to Bloc’s story.
And it is the last ever one because – well, weekenders are strange, beautiful things. Bloc itself has had some very widely publicised ups and downs. For us, in the middle of it, it has been a rollercoaster. Of course, everyone will have been on rollercoasters – they’re quite a trip, and leave you euphoric, shaken and with a new-found zest for life. Eventually, you get off having had a thoroughly great time. And that’s where we are.”
