Northern Cold lands on his label EONS with slamming hard techno EP “Onyx”

Northern Cold releases his new Onyx EP on his own imprint EONS, and it’s a slamming hard techno release with emotional melodies.

There are three solo originals by Northern Cold who is a Seattle-based artist from the USA, and you can hear the influence of his trance background within each of the tracks.

He is an active DJ who plays regularly in the Pacific Northwest, and this release harnesses uplifting euphoria, but layers it with the aggressive energy of hard techno drums.

It’s impossible not to hear the classic influences within this EP, as it has distinctive elements similar to music by Marco V and others who pioneered the tech trance movement of the early ‘00s.

“Setting the Fires” is a tension building intro track, and after some atmospheric pads, it lands on an explosive groove with euphoric breakdowns. “Exposure” is another euphoric techno track with soaring melodies stretched over brutal drums.

“Flux” is a track made in collaboration with IN_DUAL, who is also an American artist from Seattle. It’s darker than the first two tracks, and has a powerful acid line, underscored by hulking bass tones.

“Dead Winter (Outro Mix)” brings the release to a close with dystopian pads and angelic vocal tones. The track ends with an atmospheric outro after the hammering drums subside.
