Mass Medel debuts on One Dance Left with his ‘Baby Gangster’ EP

Tijuana, Mexico-based DJ/Producer Mass Medel joins forces with the label, and resident Data Transmission radio Show, One Dance Left, for his new release ‘Baby Gangster’. This will be Medel’s first release outside of his own imprint Saucetical Records, and the bass-heavy, peak-time track delivers with sultry drops and percussive grooves.

One Dance Left delivers a strong release here that has seen some major early support from the likes of Oscar G, Robert Owens, Eric Powell, Chris Lake, Don Diablo, as well as global radio support in Ireland, the UK, Australia, and the White Isle, Ibiza. We look forward to hearing more from Mass Medel, and One Dance Left.

The release is an international affair, ripe with talent as it comes with 2 killer remixes from DJ Mag Top 100 DJ alumni Francis Davila from Guatemala, as well as US-based Irishman, Notorious Lynch. 

Davila delivers a lovely remix that compliments the originals bass heavy flow while adding his signature Latin percussive grooves, going slightly heavier on the drums, and adding longer sustained build-ups to the sultry drops like in the original.

Lynch does a flip on the original with a Dom Dolla-style saw wave bass. Fast becoming his signature sound, the Tech House DJ/Producer adds heavy synth drops but, also features some classic deeper House sounds also, switching up the style but, always maintaining the upbeat energy. 

We caught up with Mass Medel to ask him a few questions about the release.

Q1) Tell us about the background of the record, and how the name ‘Baby Gangster’ came about?

Initially, the track didn’t have a vocal, and during the early stages of production, I played a sample of the track for a friend who reacted “that sounds gangster”. The name soon followed. 

Q2) What attracted you to the label One Dance Left?

Being a label owner myself, I understand how much work goes into every release, and the process behind the scenes that people don’t see. It is a very competitive industry, and One Dance Left have been doing great work even in the early stages of the label. To date, the label has been very professional, supportive and transparent which are all things that appeal to me as an artist and industry professional. One Dance Left is certainly a label to keep eyes on, and I have no doubt they will continue to release dance floor quality bangers.

Q3) What are your hopes for the track?

First, I hope the track connects with people in some way, to make them dance, vibe or just to help create a memorable moment of great energy that they can look back and smile about and say, “yeah that was fun”. In addition, I have high hopes for it on Beatport in the DJ charts and would like to see that correlate to Spotify with the streaming as well (don’t forget to add it to your playlists – “shameless plug”) lol. 

Q4) What’s next for Mass Medel? Tell us about any new music or events you have lined up.

Yes, regarding new music, I always have some cooking, and I plan to release again with One Dance Left (“more to come on this”), as well as with my own label Saucetical Records. On the event side of things, I have been regularly playing in Tijuana, and Mexicali of late, and will be doing a special back-to-back set with Notorious Lynch next month at Groove, at a great underground House & Techno venue in Mexicali. We will be playing support to a big act, so keep an eye on the socials for the announcement, date and further details.
