DJ Pierre releases three new mixes ‘We Are Phuture’

Phuture is the Chicago-based acid-house group, founded in 1985 by Spanky, DJ Pierre and Herb J. The group’s 12-minute track ‘Acid Tracks’ released in 1987 is one of the first acid house records ever recorded, however it was the following year’s ‘We Are Phuture’ with which the group truly found their voice.

Ahead of the 30 year anniversary of the birth of acid house in 2017, Get Physical have teamed up with DJ Pierre to revisit Phuture’s ‘We Are Phuture’, their influential record which was released nearly three decades ago in the height of the acid house craze. The release features three new versions by Pierre himself, including one of which is a direct tribute to the recently departed founding member Spanky from Pierre. He said “The words of survival in this song could not be any more true.  This is in dedication to you my friend.  Sleep well. We will forever be Phuture and Phuture will always survive in our music. Love and respect always.”

DJ Pierre recalls: “When the words came to me for ‘We are Phuture’ I had no idea how relevant and true they would become. My friend Spanky of over 30 years is no longer with us in body, but he is here in spirit. He is here in the music. A few years after acid house reached its peaked people gave up on it. They said acid was dead. Spanky and I refused to believe that. So I wrote the words to this song. It was in direct defiance to people wanting to put us and the movement to rest. Next year in 2017 we celebrate 30 years of Acid House and it’s bigger than ever.”
