With Melt! festival returning today for another weekend of amazing music in one of the best locations in the world, we thought we’d take a look back at last and why you need to head there this weekend.
Journey an hour away from the dance mecca of Berlin and you will find yourself in the quaint town of Ferropolis. Amongst the lovely houses and long winding roads you will find arguably one of the best festivals on the planet.
Melt! festival is a juxtaposition of man, machine and nature. Mega structures and metallic titans breathing fire are nestled amongst lakes and trees. The recovered opencast coal mine is an incredible and unique venue that would be worth the visit even without the host of world class international artist playing over 8 stages.
First up on the main stage was Jamie xx who played an amazing sunset set by the lake. The audience were captivated and enthralled and that was only for starters. On the Big Wheel Stage Alan Fitzpatrick played an equally impressive sunrise set of incredible house tunes old and new. The stage itself was like a huge piece of art glowing, illuminating and pulsating with every beat.
Melt! implemented the wristband cashless payment system which was a smooth and painless process. Put a few euros on and you’re ready to go. You can also get money back when you return your cups which is good for the environment and your wallet.
On site camping is available and a host of hotels are nearby with coaches leaving regularly to drop you there and back. They even have a party train with on board djs and cabins which picks you in cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Hanover and takes you to the festival.
If the music and setting wasn’t good enough, Melt! is also full of really cool people. You can wander about and make a host of new friends to party the weekend away with. Large but intimate the site has a lake, disco area, Vip bar, Jungle gym and little pop stands playing an eclectic range of music that act as a palette cleanser amongst the main stages. You’ll find people in rafts and canoes chilling by lake and at night big kids climbing the jungle gym.
One of the main attractions at Melt is the Sleepless floor. Open for the entirety of the festival the Sleepless floor plays music 24/7 for 3 nights straight. The likes of Dj Tennis, Pete Tong and Hot since 82 kept the outdoor dance floor pumping non stop and was definitely the spot where everybody needed up at the end night or start of the night.
Other acts over the weekend included Kylie, London Grammer, Alt J, Sven Vath, Django Django, Marcel Dettmann and Mathias Kaden. All adding a unique element and further making this festival an amalgamation of environments and sounds. Hip hop, house, techno, indie and disco all wonderfully woven together in one wondrous setting. You’re heart will certainly melt so get yourself there if you have a chance. Will be the best weekend of your life.
