Top 10 OFF Sonar Parties
For longer than we can relate, Sonar Festival‘s week is characterized by being the busiest week in terms of music in Barcelona, and possibly throughout Europe. In addition to the festival itself, which celebrates its 26th edition this year, and which hosted more than 120,000 people last year, the offer of parties and DJs in the city is multiplied thanks to the OFF Sonar’s programming. Taking place across Barcelona between 18th-21st July OFF Sonar has become a pilgrimage to heads.
To help you choose in between the wide variety of musical proposals, DJs and clubs from the leisure capital of Spain, Data Transmission has made a selection of the Top 10 OFF parties to make the hard task of choosing as easy as to find as ‘sangria’ and ‘paella’.
Move Your Ass with DJ Haus, Lone & DJ Bruce Lee @ LAUT
For the more adventurous, for those who don’t beat around the bush and know that they are going to give everything that week, the party starts on Wednesday at LAUT. With a luxury line up, in one of the best clubs of the city and with no other than DJ Haus, Wednesday night promises to come loaded with hard house, ghetto music and heavy breaks. British prodigy’s Lone and the renowned local artist DJ Bruce Lee will be accompanying him during the night.
Spanish Mafia presents: Local Action x Glacial Industries @ La Infinita (Hospitalet)
Possibly the most varied party in terms of musical styles and the best option for Thursday’s night. British collectives Local Action and Glacial Sound join forces in this event, co-produced by the local Spanish Mafia collective and the LowKeyMoves‘ musical agency, in which we will have Lone b2b Esqueezy (do not miss the mixtape they recorded for Dimensions festival), Martyn Bootyspoon (from Fractal Fantasy), Finn, Anz or ELLL, representing the great musical variety of the UK. To complete the lineup, several of the most active DJs from the local scene will perform, with performances by Aire (Spanish Mafia), Daniel 2000 (Mainline) and Lowprofile (LowKeyMoves) b2b Rumbler (Iberian Juke).
Futura x Odd Fantastic @ Nitsa
Renowned booking agencies Futura and Odd Fantastic will once again collaborate on their Thursday night party in Apolo/Nitsa Club. Hand in hand with Vladimir Ivkovic, Carlos Souffront, Or:la and Violet, you can expect a night of broken and hypnotic rhythms, with slowed rave sounds and many surprises from several of the best DJs of the moment.
Klub Kiwi @ Sala Vol
For the UK Garage lovers, this is your night. Kiwi Rekords has become one of the most important references of this style in the UK, thanks to the incombustible energy of DJ/producer Conducta, which has been revolutionizing the scene for a few years and giving freshness to the genre. He will be accompanied by Sharda (aka Murlo), Mind of a Dragon, Misbah and a very special guest in Sala Vol.
This Is Hardcore @ Razzmatazz
Razzmatazz is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic and important clubs of the city, and like every year, they organize one of the most complete programmings of the OFF Sonar weekend with its mythical ‘This Is Hardcore’. On this occassion, in addition to the already common bets for house and techno, covered this year by artists of the likes of Fjaak, Rødhad, Charlotte de Witte (Thursday) or Ben Sims (Saturday), we’re happy to see some surprises like the Nyege Nyege party on Thursday – one of the emerging labels and collectives that has been more up-to-date this past year – or the Friday night program, in which Trill, Fuego and Suave – event promoters of the city – will take all the rooms to offer their different views of the current club and urban music, with Evian Christ’s ‘Tranceparty’ party or Madrid’s collective Chica Gang.
Detroit Love x Rush Hour @ Poble Espanyol Monastery
With a line up that will make you feel goosebumps, you could not expect less from a collaboration between two musical powers such as Detroit Love and Rush Hour; neither the stamps nor the artists need a presentation at this point. With a line up that brings together legends of techno and house music like Carl Craig and Moodyman or disco masters like Hunee and Antel, the fun for Friday’s night is more than assured.
Whities Label Showcase @ LAUT
Whities record label has not stopped editing wax gems since its inception in 2014. Through its EPs, it has hosted many of the most relevant artists in experimental club music, such as Overmono, Lanark Artefax or Minor Science, the UK label has earned a well-deserved reputation, making each release an indispensable piece. On this occasion, the showcase will be directed by Tasker (label’s founder) and Laksa in LAUT Club for a beautiful Friday night.
La Terrrazza presents: Special Request, Baba Stiltz, K-Hand, Imogen & Pépe @ Poble Espanyol
The Poble Espanyol is one of the places with more and better activity during the week of OFF Sonar in Barcelona. With a wide variety of spaces inside, La Terrazza has become one of the most emblematic places of the place, given its breadth and openness in the open air. For Saturday night, a fine selection of artists, among which are Special Request, Baba Stiltz or the national producer Pépe, will be responsible for entertaining the evening.
Innervisions Barcelona @ Poble Espanyol
Dixon’s Innervisions record label comes back to Poble Espanyol once again with this monstrosity of a lineup, taking over 3 of different spaces with 3 different proposals. With nothing more and nothing less than Âme, John Talabot or Kink in La Plaza, Apparat or Gerd Janson in Monasterio and Amerson Emerson, Courtesy & co in La Carpa, there is no doubt that this will be an afternoon to remember.
Outlier & Exhale OFF Sonar parties @ Poble Espanyol
If you still have some energy left and you want to close the Sonar week in style, on Sunday you still have the option of getting a good farewell. Also in Poble Espanyol, Sunday afternoon will feature two ideal events to underpin the week.
On the one hand, the event ‘Outlier’ curated by Bonobo, together with Agoria, Mathew Jonson, TEED or rRoxymore will be held at the Monasterio.
While the ‘Exhale‘ party led by Amelie Lens, Airod, Farrago and Milo Spykers will be held at La Carpa during Sunday’s afternoon.
