Above & Beyond take ABGT 250 to The Gorge Amphitheatre

Once a year, Above & Beyond gather their forces and DJ as a trio at their Group Therapy events. They’ve headlined events at the Jayamahal Palace in Bangalore India, Alexandra Palace in London, UK, Madison Square Garden in New York City USA, the Allphones Arena in Sydney Australia and the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam since they moved their radio show format from Trance Around the World to Group Therapy back in 2012. However, one thing has remained the same: their undeniable talent to bring groups of individuals together under the premise of love. Whether that be for one another, music or other reason, it really just depends on the person.

This year, they’ve eclipsed anything they’ve put on in the past. Not only did they add another day to their festival, but they made the all important camping addition available as well at the world famous Gorge Amphitheatre, Washington State across September 16 and 17. The Gorge itself is worthy of a paragraph just trying to explain its epitome of awesomeness. 150 miles outside of Seattle, Carved high in the basalt cliffs overlooking the Columbia River Gorge in Central Washington State, this amphitheater is known and praised for the stunning views accompanying the concert venue since its opening in 1986. Having been recognized multiple times by Billboard Magazine, Pollstar Magazine and The Academy of Country Music as America’s top amphitheater, it’s no surprise Above & Beyond selected this site for their 250th episode.

Toting a lineup featuring artists from their Beats + Deep imprints, next weekend should be nothing less than extraordinary!

Let’s start with Saturday. Taking place on the main stage, Above & Beyond get things rolling with a deep set from their ABGT250 radio studio, followed by sets from Anjunadeep’s Luttrell, who has been their breakout star of this year, followed by their breakout star from last year Yotto, whom will seamlessly make the transition from transient to productions a bit more closely based around the trance genre as Oliver Smith takes the reigns next. He has many aliases including Meramek and Smith & Pledger (aka Aspekt) which gives him the flexibility that will make for quite the performance. Genix and Sunny Lax, both staples of the Anjuna family and performing for one of the Above & Beyond Red Rocks after parties, their direct support slot before Above & Beyond will be widely anticipated. “Tightrope” and “My Own Hymn” have strikingly different artwork than their predecessors, hinting at them being singles for the main attraction’s (Above & Beyond) next album, will be fit in along with previously underheard tunes and fans favorites. Seven Lions will be spinning records alongside Jason Ross to finish night one down. Given that their styles clash yet resemble an overall Anjuna vibe will be a treat for everyone’s ears while processing everything that transpired over the course of the day.

Sunday begins with a rare yoga set by Above & Beyond, from the likes haven’t been heard since 2014 as they surprised the Burning Man community with a special sunset outing on the Robot Heart Bus. After a short 20 minute set break, the producer of the critically acclaimed album ‘First Landing’, Moon Boots performs his blend of deep house and R&B tracks for the Anjunadeep party at the Gorge Meadow. Following are Eli & Fur, who are no strangers when it comes to dropping fire tunes on the label, will bring a healthy dose of a custom combination of electronic melodies and moody vocals. Midway through, Jody Wisternoff & James Grant, the compilers of a string of the most recent editions of the Anjunadeep compilations, go back-to-back for an hour and forty-five minutes with the legends 16 Bit Lolitas playing right until sunset. First day performers Yotto and Luttrell go back to back for what can only be imagined as quite the roller coaster set to close the entire festival out.

For what it’s worth, there really isn’t any consolation that can be given for those not able to attend this momentous occasion. While not a replacement for the stunning views and ground shaking tunes that creep up through your feet and vibrate your entire essence, there will be a live stream provided for both days that won’t disappoint even the most avid of fans. With this being the most diverse lineup and expansive undertaking the trio has undertaken since forming back in 2000, they’re setting the bar very high for competing acts to imitate and follow in their footsteps.

There are still tickets if you want to attend from here

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
