11 DJs to Reach at Hospitality On The Beach 2019
Your package is booked, you’ve ordered your Kuna and you and your friends are raging with excitement for what is set to be a drum & bass session in the sun even more magical than last years’ successful debut Hospitality On The Beach that blessed the shores of the beautiful garden resort in Tisno, Croatia.
A new story is about to begin and this year the organisers are bringing some of Europe’s most influential collectives with them including Sun & Bass, EXIT Records, Dubplate Style and Korsakov alongside their devoted Hospital family. Headliners at the ready include Andy C, Friction, DJ Marky and S.P.Y with Noisia, High Contrast, DJ Hype, Logistics and London Elektricity just some of the wizards hitting the main stage.
No drum & bass party would be complete without a selection of the finest mic manipulators; your hosts dotted around the slew of stages will include DRS, LX One, Fava, Dynamite MC, Ruthless, GQ, Linguistics, Lowqui, 2Shy, AD, Navigator and many more.
Being spoilt for choice is golden but if you’re unsure about the kinds of sound waves you’d like passing through you, here’s the lowdown on 11 DJs you might like to check out if you’re flying over for all the action…
Pola & Bryson
Having shot into the scene with their next generation sculpted sound, Pola & Bryson are sure to deliver a journey that’s deep, melodic and fresher than a breakfast smoothie. Since starting their own label Soulvent Records in 2014 and hosting their own events, this duo has been an unstoppable force. Their efforts have earned them multiple nominations at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards, an exclusive signing to Shogun Audio and an incredibly healthy looking gig diary. These boys have something special that you won’t want to miss.
When DJ Marky steps up you know you’re in for a treat. Silky smooth drum & bass sunshine served up on a beautiful china plate strewn with a few meaty surprises. Globally renowned for his lively, melodic sets and productions, Brazilian Marky has been spreading love through music since ‘92 and is famous for his incredibly positive attitude and fun approach at the decks. Hailed as ‘Best New DJ’ by music critics in 1999, Marky went on to release highly acclaimed collaborative album ‘In Rotation’ with his Innerground Records label co founder XRS in 2004 and was also selected to record a two hour BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix the same year. Witness a master at work and let DJ Marky warm your heart with his passion for music and the kindness that glows from his soul. You’ll be very glad you stopped by.
If you want to be worked then jump into Krakota’s crowd and prepare for a serious grind. In a league of his own since he was 15, his dedication to his craft has landed him an exclusive signing to Hospital Records and earned him recognition all over Europe for his bass heavy, colourful productions and explosive multi-deck sets. This drum & bass God amongst men from sunny Bournemouth will be digging deep into his crate in true Krakatau style to conjure up what promises to be an unforgettable festival moment.
Inspired by the sounds of Dilinja and Hazard with selections and productions more treacherous than a Himalayan mountain highway, Benny L is a rising force of diabolical proportions and has quickly become of the most in demand names on the scene. Since his first signing to Audioporn in 2014, Benny’s releases have been the latest hype with his brand new Metalheadz viper ‘Vanta Black’ causing utter chaos amongst the skanking masses. Having also made history as the first artist in dnb to hit No.1 in the Beatport overall charts for his sub bass bubbling remix of John Holt’s reggae classic ‘Police In Helicopter’, Drum & Bass Awards ‘Best Newcomer 2018’ winner Benny is unwittingly paving the way for the future of the genre. If the scorching Croatian sun isn’t quite hot enough for you, this young man will be standing by to further raise your temperature and burst a few blood vessels. EXTREME HEAT WARNING.
A fearless selector burning with a desire to bring quality sounds straight from her core, Mantra fuses past with present to bring forth deep and reflective, jungle drum & bass moods. Over the last ten years or so her highly acclaimed London club night Rupture has welcomed new talent to its line ups, as well as countless leaders in the game and Mantra’s success and reputation as a respected DJ, producer and promoter is a testament to her hard work and commitment. Go and sit yourself under Mantra’s meditative waterfall of jungle as it heads for the hearts of everyone united beneath it.
Away from the scene for over a decade in pursuit of growth and development as a multi-genre artist, and to the excitement of his adoring fans worldwide, DJ Zinc is home and poised to deploy one of four, monumental five hour sets coming to the festival this year. In light of the jungle live streams which have popped up on his socials over the last year, and his recent Bingo Bass release ‘Something New’, I think it’s safe to say that the love between drum & bass and our super sharp shooter has been firmly rekindled. Make sure you swing by for what could be dnb pioneer Zinc’s most eclectic and inspiring set yet.
A flawless technician at the top of his game and asserting a truly one-of-a-kind presence is Jubei. The long time Metalheadz and Code 3 crew member will be armed with an industrial strength, rolling drum & bass bomb ready to drop right over Tisno. With his no gimmicks approach to his performances and productions, he has developed a clinical and pristine style that is matched by no one. If you’re looking for something a bit deeper head for Jubei and rest assured you’ll be hooked in by some seriously hypnotising rhythms.
Sweetpea is cementing a reputation for delivering fierce, abyssal sets that leave her soldiers with the tightest screw faces you’ve ever seen. Spinning at some of the scenes biggest label nights and with releases on labels such as Hospitality, Dispatch and Addictive Behaviour, this hard working lady is no stranger to the drum & bass society and an inspiration to female artists everywhere trying to make their mark. Get to Med School and let Sweetpea drench you in waves of reverberating filth.
With a history in the industry going back nearly 25 years, and having remained at the very top of his game throughout, Randall – a highly respected inspiration to industry professionals and music lovers everywhere – is one of a handful of undisputed world champion drum & bass DJs. Word of his incredibly fluid style and dubplate stash spread fast early in his career, landing him residencies in London alongside the likes of DJ Hype and Grooverider. The influential Mac II Recordings label boss has seen some memorable releases over time and has also been commissioned by Mixmag, Dreamscape and others for studio mixes. Randall’s ability to consistently deliver the goods as the scene has developed over time has sealed a successful career that continues to take him around the world. His next stop; five hours of unparalleled, legendary magic for an acquiescent HOTB army in Croatia.
Whiney B2B Kyrist
Two of the hottest soundscape creators on the circuit are coming together to merge their euphonious attributes for what it set to be a back to back session loaded with heroic moments.
Kyrist, held in high regard by her peers, sits on the darker side of drum & bass with releases home to Proximity and Nurtured Beats amongst others and brings an energetic, trademark tech-driven style with razor sharp mixing to the table.
Whiney, signed exclusively to Med School and with multiple Drum & Bass Arena Award nominations to his name, uses his deep knowledge of music to shape harmonic, high energy sets sprinkled with destruction. This is going to go off.
Whether you’re looking for music that is deep, melodic and uplifting or something much heavier and darker, you will find all you need and more amongst the array of talent spread across the areas of the festival this year. DJ support will also be provided by beach residents Ed Priest, Big Craigy D, Dexta, Robert Manos, Hillah and more with no stone at the gorgeous garden resort left unturned or unnourished with delightful drum & bass moods.
Furthermore, I’ll be catching up with Clinic Talent’s Sweepea for a chat about her Tisno adventure including her sets on the Med School stage and Dispatch Recordings sold out boat party, as well as finding out about her journey so far as a rising female artist.
The five day long, eagerly anticipated Hospitality On The Beach sequel we’ve all been waiting for is right around the corner and waiting is an empty resort, crying out for the positive energy about to spill over its pools and gathering spots that will emanate from the hoards of beat seekers due to arrive in just a few short weeks.
Now let’s sleep tight for just a little longer and brace ourselves for a euphoric experience we are never going to forget…
