IMS IBIZA 2016 – 5 Things To Check Out

Here we are again… one of our favourite times of the year, IMS Ibiza. This is the 9th Year and for us at Data Transmission our 8th year of attending and supporting the conference.  This year IMS Ibiza 2016 is hitting Hard Rock Hotel again as its now settled in to its yearly home and really kicks off the summer!!  Starting on Wednesday 25th you will have 3 full on days of panels and talks with parties thrown in for good measure, followed by a weekend of non-stop partying…

We’ve put our heads together and come up with our Top 5 panels to check out while you’re there!

1. Keynote Interview with Pet Shop Boys

Day 3 – 1630 – 1730

We’re massively excited about this!  The one and only Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe will be interviewed by the main man Pete Tong!  The Pet Shop Boys have been in the music industry since 1981.  They have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, and are listed as the most successful duo in UK music history!  Actually…Amazing!!

2. Introducing…Crowdmix

Day 2 1345 – 1410

Presented by Ted Mico (CMO, Crowdmix, USA)

Crowdmix is an innovative new social platform, presented as a smartphone app, Crowdmix hinges on the universally recognized factor of building a community around similar music tastes. Originally billing itself as a music social network, Crowdmix now aims to connect users through group sharing on any topic. Currently in an invite-only private beta mode, the company hopes that influencers and creators will gradually attract users and brands and uses the crowd as the pivot for a new kind of social interaction. Its very different when we’re in a group of people we know and trust to when we’re broadcasting on Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat.

It’s about finding something in common with other people and this is the key. We all want to belong and find things in common with other people, that’s how we’re hard wired. Crowdmix is a mechanism for finding things in common with other people, which will allow us to discover new people and places and things. At the moment most social networks are one-to-many, we’re basically broadcasting to our feed or friends.

They want to create a viable place for people to exchange ideas and conversations first and let it grow organically.

3. Great Streaming Debate

Day 1 – 1520 – 1620

In todays digital environment the streaming platform is one of the best ways to find music. Services like Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer are big business and their less obvious participants in the streaming and this panel looks how the electronic industry is changing and where the future is heading. This topic includes start-ups Crowdmix, Traxsource and MetaPop but also covers retailers and curatorial platforms.

4. Diversity in music with a focus on gender

Day 3 1320 – 1415

The hot topic worldwide, we attended this panel at Brighton Music Conference this year, we were highly engaged and didn’t realise the extent of this problem and how the diversity in music with a focus on gender is still a massive problem that needs rectifying for future generations. This year IMS has teamed up with Shesaid.so, they are a carefully selected network of women with active roles in the music industry with a vision to create an environment that supports collaboration, creativity and positive values. Established in September 2014, SSSO has grown to over 750 members worldwide in less than a year. Their members are a balanced mix of medium to high profile industry women across all sectors of the industry from PR to management to music tech to record labels. The panel will look at what can be done in the work in regards pay gap to more time for fathers to allow women to return to work after child birth.  IMS has been under attack for its lack of female speakers at IMS Engage, and they felt it was time to bring this panel back.  We at Data Transmission feel this should be a must attend panel and agree that IMS should & have agreed to run this talk every year until it’s universally agreed that they don’t need to…

Carl Cox Space

and finally…

5. Space Ibiza:  End Of An Era

Day 1 1625 – 1700

Pepe Roselló will close the doors to Space in October, a venue we lovely dearly at Data Transmission from its uncovered terrace years, to the sheer delight it is today,  he is being brought back to the IMS stage with Carl Cox and Lynn Cosgrave, the partnership that put Space Ibiza back on the map over the last 15 years.  It will be emotional.

P.S…….Don’t miss the legendary Dalt Villa parties!!
