TRUTH drop new Drum & Bass EP ‘Without You’

Production outfit TRUTH are using their New Zealand heritage within their forthcoming EP on bass music imprint Deep, Dark & Dangerous. They created the platform to give them full creative control over their output. Founded in 2012 and now home and incubator to a growing host of acts focused on the unmistakable DDD sound – as well a diverse list of others including Deep Medi Muzik, Disciple, Wakaan and more.

On the global touring circuit, the fruits of their labour have included hundreds of shows and festivals across Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Asian, South & North America, as well as key hosted Deep, Dark & Dangerous takeovers at some of the world’s top festivals, including Shambhala, Outlook Festival and Infrasound.

Building their performance presence through years of prolific production output, weekly mixes and streaming, and key DJ support from the likes of Mala, Skream, Bassnectar, Liquid Stranger, Youngsta and Hatcha to name just a few – the duo have released music on their very own Deep, Dark & Dangerous label.

Renowned for their precise production standards and searing basslines, TRUTH’s ‘Without You’ EP presents a different flavour from the duo, although it’s still linked to the music which provides a soundtrack to the clubbing spaces of their roots. They’ve now exported this to California, where Andre now resides in LA, whilst they keep one foot in Christchurch, New Zealand through Tristan. It provides an insight into the progression of TRUTH’s artistry. From Mala’s Deep Medi Musik to the sounds on Deep, Dark & Dangerous, this drum & bass EP presents another turning point for the producers. Due to be released on July’s Bandcamp day, it also highlights one of the finest independent labels to come through in recent times.

Their immaculate ‘Without You’ EP is more understated than their approach to dubstep, but it still hits the same emotive tones and painstaking engineering which is often a signature of their craft. ‘Pass Me By’ features lush textures whilst being underpinned by a heavier backdrop, meanwhile cuts like title-track ‘Without You’ roll through with cascading breaks. ‘Eyes on Me’ focuses on its segments of percussion and darker moods, whilst the expert drum work of ‘Heartbreak’ and the creeping intensity of ‘Miasma’ brings it to a close. It’s a walkthrough of the pair’s imaginative scope, something which this EP shows is demonstrably huge.

For our premiere today, we are sharing the title track ‘Without You’ which starts off quite soft and slow before transforming into a more dramatic liquid roller. With a saxophone providing the melody, this track is filled with funk and a wicked groove with layers and layers of sounds and atmospherics.
