The Skeptics return to Intrigue with ‘Complex Illusions’ EP

Share

Next up for Intrigue Music comes the Birmingham production duo The Skeptics with their ‘Complex Illusions’ EP. Featuring a rare glimpse of the deserted road tunnels of Birmingham at night for the artwork, this EP consists of four intricate tracks that perfectly balance heavy hitting bass with liquid sentiments.

To date the duo has seen their music released on labels such as Celsius Recordings, Under Surveillance, Beats In Mind: Headsbass, Intrigue Music and Flight Pattern. Last year saw them have their busiest year release-wise, which is incredible given the state of the world at the time! They also contributed our Christmas Renegade Riddims mix, which you can check out HERE if you haven’t already done so!

During lockdown, The Skeptics found plenty of time to focus on their production and their first love, Mountain Biking. Spending lots of time riding in Cannock Chase inspired them to name a track after one of the most challenging climbs, ‘Insidious’. The resulting track features a constant switching of beats, much like the bends in this notorious climb. This one dropped as a single today, you can grab it from here!

The title track ‘Complex Illusions’ continues the theme of regular change through the straight-up rolling beats. No words or lyrics, just a hard bass and constant sense of movement throughout the arrangement.

Following on ‘Departure’ begins with a slow, steady, stepping beat that evolves through the vocal sample into an amen break tune with a heavy-hitting second drop.

Ending the EP on a high with the exceptional talents of vocalist Syndey, ‘Show Me The Way’ is a beautiful ode to being guided through the world.

Four solid tracks that are at home on any dancefloor! Intrigue Music tell us “We are extremely proud to present the ‘Complex Illusions’ EP”.

Today we premiere ‘Show Me The Way’ with Sydney on vocals, which you can check out below! The ‘Complex Illusions’ EP drops via Intrigue Music on Friday 17th September, make sure you grab a copy from the purchase button beneath the Soundcloud player!
