Renegade Riddims: Vispera (Mixed by Gifta)

Vispera discovered her passion for words at a young age, diving into the world of spoken word, slam poetry, and creative writing during her mid-teens in Manchester. This early exploration laid the foundation for her distinctive voice and lyrical prowess.

In recent years, Vispera has transitioned into the dynamic realm of Drum & Bass, captivating audiences with her powerful and poetic MCing style. Her unique ability to weave compelling narratives and evoke raw emotions has set her apart in the competitive music scene.

With a growing presence on stages across the UK, Vispera is quickly gaining recognition as a versatile and respected MC. She has showcased her talents at numerous events, hosting sets that span a wide range of bass music genres and leaving audiences wanting more.

As a resident MC for esteemed labels and events like Phase Records, Sisterhood Birmingham, and Off The Record 0161, Vispera has solidified her place in the music industry. Her collaborations with talented artists and producers have further enhanced her reputation and expanded her creative horizons.

Looking ahead, this year is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in Vispera’s career. She is set to make waves as a recording artist, with upcoming releases on Phase Records and Trust Audio, as well as her highly anticipated debut EP. With her passion, talent, and dedication to her craft, Vispera is undoubtedly an artist to watch in the Drum & Bass scene and beyond.

Today Vispera joins our Renegade Riddims series with a brand new mix which has been mixed by Gifta with Vispera on mic duties. The mix features music from Gifta, Dapreme, Document One & Kyrist, Flava D, Kanine, T>I, Melinki & D’Cypher, a load of other artists and a bunch of dubs too!

Sum up this mix in 10 words…

A dark and treacherous journey with guiding, visceral, reverberating narration.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

Towards the end there’s a teaser for an upcoming collab between myself, Gifta and Xyde, due for release on Gifta’s Phase Records EP, I can say nothing more!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

I tried to tell a story, Gifta’s mixing provides an epic backdrop for the journey I describe – it’s a sort of metaphor for the challenges we embark on in facing our fears, diving into the uncertainty that is surviving as an artist in the music industry.

Tell us about your next EP…

I have my debut EP coming out this Autumn, again it tells a story – this time through the allegory of Man’s Fall from Eden and the narrative of Eve. I’m working with a few different producers, stylistically it ranges from aggressive rolling drops to old school, organic, jungle drum patterns, all with plenty of atmosphere. Keep an eye out for announcements and an EP promo tour!

What have you got coming up?

Lots of exciting things over the Summer, Phase Records Takeover at Hospitality on the Beach will be incredible and I have a few more festival slots lined up, plus upcoming releases on Phase Records and Trust Audio.

When was the last time you actually raved?

Ha! Too long! I regularly go and see friends play out but it’s been a while since I went to a rave just for fun, maybe a cheeky free party on New Years Eve?

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

Looking after your physical well-being is important to harness your creative flow and realise your potential. Don’t burn the candle at both ends! And to any MCs, own your voice – you’re the only person that can excel at being you.
