Renegade Riddims: Mark Track B2B Tommy Track

Share

Mark Track and Tommy Track form a dynamic duo in the world of Drum & Bass. They’re not just talented DJs, producers and label owners, they also share a unique bond as father and son.

Mark’s journey into the realm of Hardcore and early Jungle began in the early 1990s when a friend introduced him to a YAMAN mixtape. This sparked a deep passion, leading him to frequent iconic venues like the Lazerdrome in Peckham, the Paradise Club in Islington, and The Sanctuary in Milton Keynes. He became a regular attendee at renowned events such as World Dance and Desire across the United Kingdom.

In 1994, Mark took an active role in managing the now legendary Track Records in Chesham, curating a collection of the freshest Drum & Bass and Jungle vinyl. Simultaneously, he organized his own monthly events called Cause n’ Effect. Recently, he has held residencies on radio stations like U.K. Rumble, Nakedbeatz, and Shack FM.

Tommy, born in Milton Keynes in 2006, grew up immersed in music thanks to his DJ father and music teacher mother. With influences including J. Majik, Photek, Peshay, LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Adam F and Ram Trilogy, he delved into mixing at the age of 11 and showcased his skills as a pianist, guitarist, and drummer.

At 14, while all of his friends clamoured for new PlayStations and Xboxes, Tommy’s passion centred on acquiring Ableton and a MIDI keyboard to start crafting his own music.

Now, at the age of 17, Tommy finds immense joy in producing diverse styles of Drum & Bass, from atmospheric dark rollers to vibrant liquid beats. He marvels at the global reach of their music, seeing tracks streamed from places like Texas to Slovenia.

For Mark, playing his own music surpasses spinning tracks from others. Hence, in 2022, the father-son duo launched Track Records as a platform for their music. With 8 releases to their name already, they eagerly anticipate the opportunities in 2024 to collaborate with and support other artists.

I’ve been in contact with Mark for a while, as we live in the same town and have some mutual friends. I began supporting their releases and when we finally met recently, I asked if they’d be up for a mix for Renegade Riddims. Mark was immediately keen and the pair embarked on recording a mix almost straight away. Three days after the meeting I had the mix delivered! It features a ton of tracks by themselves nicely woven into tracks from the likes of Phibes, Muzz, Tantrum Desire, Matrix, L-Plus, Break D-Zire and loads more!
