Renegade Riddims: Flame Jade

Some people find Drum & Bass. Others are practically born in the middle of a smoke machine with a white label in each hand. Flame Jade definitely falls into the second category.

Raised by two DJ parents, music wasn’t just background noise in the house; it was part of everyday life. Vinyl constantly landed through the door, often in double copies, and even the most heated family moments could be cooled down by dropping the needle on the right record. That kind of upbringing leaves a mark. For Flame Jade, it became the foundation of everything.

From squat parties to sweaty warehouse sessions and late-night rave missions, underground culture shaped her early years. She’s been called a “child of the rave” for as long as she can remember, and honestly, it fits. There’s a real sense of gratitude when she talks about those days, too, the kind of appreciation only someone raised around towering stacks, rewinds and proper rave energy can carry forward.

Her journey to the decks hasn’t followed a neat, straight line either. Flame Jade stepped away from DJing more than once over the years, and at one point even sold her equipment to help support her mum before she sadly passed away 14 years ago. It’s a loss that still sits close to the heart, but one that’s deeply connected to her relationship with music. Every set feels loaded with purpose, emotion and a sense that she’s carrying something forward that would’ve made her mum proud.

The passing of MC Skibadee also hit hard, another reminder of just how deeply this scene connects people across generations, friendships and dancefloors. But for Flame Jade, DJing was never some calculated career move or social media flex. It unfolded naturally, almost like the music kept pulling her back in whenever life drifted elsewhere.

What makes this chapter different is the hunger to keep evolving. Other hobbies and passions lost their spark once mastered, but Jungle and Drum & Bass refuse to stand still. There’s always another blend to tighten, another groove to chase, another rave waiting somewhere under flashing lights and low ceilings. That constant movement is exactly what keeps Flame Jade locked in.

And honestly, you can hear it. This isn’t someone dipping a toe into rave culture. This is someone who grew up inside it.

What’s your personal favourite track on it? 

My own track — I LUV U by Flame Jade. 

What’s the special ingredient in this mix? 

There’s something in this mix for everyone — all styles of drum & bass and new jungle in one set. I Love AMEN so I had to play a section of it !Phrasing was challenging, but I love DJing like this because it makes you think deeply about how everything fits together, almost like solving a puzzle. I know the tracks I want to play, but the challenge is making them all work together while considering energy, flow, and different musical elements. I also wanted to showcase that I have a very wide and varied selection. 

Tell us about your next release…

I’ve got a few unreleased tracks 😉 but this is the first time I’ve recorded a mix including my track I LUV U. This one is really special to me for many reasons, mainly because I love the Amen break culture so much. I created my own drum patterns and sliced my own Amens for it — jungle means a lot to me. 

What have you got coming up? 

I’m playing at Ministry of Sound on 29th May 2026, then on 31st May I’ll be playing at a festival alongside Hybrid Minds. I’m currently producing something special for my opener. I’ve also got Fire on 13th June and MC CDS’s Birthday Bash on 22nd May. I love playing different events because it allows me to explore different styles and energies within drum & bass.
