Renegade Riddims: Duska

Share

Drum & Bass DJ Duska started to push her exposure through live streams 2 years ago and participated in many radio shows across the South of England. Since then, it has been an unforgettable journey for her that’s only showing signs of increasing.

Dance music has always played an integral part of her life and since being welcomed into the Drum & Bass and Jungle scene as a young teenager, it has brought Duska even closer to the emotions that arise from music. It’s been very important to her for a long time to have a career that fulfils others needs whilst she also receives such happiness, and DJing was the milestone that allowed this to happen. Duska’s performances can take you through the highs and lows and this creates a big appreciation for the different sub-genres that have emerged within Drum & Bass. She finds it important to express vocal tracks throughout mixes whilst also delving deeper into the harder styles of Drum & Bass. Duska has thrived from being placed on all styles of events and this allows her versatility to shine through.

Duska moved to Bristol a few months ago to pursue her heartfelt career further and develop in the industry. Bristol has allowed her to support many big names that can include: DJ Marky, Jade, Serum, Monrroe, Waeys and many others. Duska is undeniably in love with the whole process of DJing and what it allows her to offer to others and ultimately how it can connect us. She has been heavily influenced by artists such as Break, Ulterior Motive, DJ Marky, Danny Byrd and Bladerunner and these producers have sparked a permanent happiness. Duska’s next step is to start producing her own music and she can’t wait to show everyone the outcome.

I first became aware of Duska after a conversation with Harvey Gordon aka Creatures who is good friends with her. He obviously rates her as a DJ and has been working closely with her. His opinion has become very important to me after working with him and getting to know him for quite some time, and if he thinks someone is worthy of a guest mix, then I won’t argue!

We asked Duska what she’s got coming up over the next few months and this is what she said:

In terms of events, this weekend I am representing Major Bass in Bristol (11th Sept), next weekend for Innovation Weekender and then some more in Bristol to end September. The rest of the year is really exciting as I have gigs back in my hometown of Bournemouth and some others spread across the country too. I have some mixes in the works with some great MC’s that I can’t wait for everyone to hear to come over the rest of the year as well.

I’ve just started music production! So I am aiming to showcase some ideas I have generated too in the not too distant future. Personally, this is a massive step in my career and something I can’t wait to be able to play in my sets in the future. For now, it’s going to be a really fun and interesting time seeing where my creativity flows.

Moreover, I have just started an instagram blog called ‘Orenda’. Orenda means a spiritual energy that’s present in all people and their environment that empowers them to affect the world or to effect change in their own lives. I want this blog to offer people a sense of togetherness, inspiration, reassurance and good energy. As I read a lot and spirituality is a big part of my life, I wanted to start a blog full of written topics/quotes but to link this to dance music (mainly DNB and Jungle). I’d like to make this a home of feel good tracks, mixes etc but also where people can find interviews and articles about artists. This really influenced me early on in my career and I think it’s really important and genuinely very eye opening to immerse yourselves into other people in the scene too (whether they’ve been doing it for 20 years or a year).

With future bookings placed all around the UK, Duska will be seen playing an unforgettable part of the night. She’s definitely on our list to see play out soon!

Check out Duska’s Renegade Riddims mix below! As usual, it’s available as a free download from the button beneath the Soundcloud player. If you’re going out tonight then whack this on while you get ready or pre-game and get yourself hyped for the night!
