Ominous drops ‘Section 8’ EP on Off-License Records

Coming through for the 12th release on Off-License Records (we can’t believe it’s been a full year either!), they have an artist who goes by the name Ominous, formally known as LG. Along with the name change, also comes a style change, and in fitting with his alias, his ‘Section 8’ EP is a 4 tracker filled with heavy rolling material that really does “give the worrying impression that something bad is going to happen”. Although this Scottish producer has had previous releases under Monk Audio and Intoxicated Thoughts Recordings, Off-License still believes he is currently flying under the radar, but we’re all hoping that’s about to change!

Kicking off ‘Section 8’, is the opening track, which like its namesake, goes in ‘Hard’. Sculpting the environment with snappy, clicky, and echoing percussion, Ominous is quickly dragging the listener through an aggressive barrage of skipping reese basses and fast, rolling drums that slap harder than Vasiliy Khamotiskiy. This one is a serious mainstage heater full to the brim with energy.
Up next we have a track that goes straight in without thinking of the repercussions. ‘RuFF’ opens into an MC laying down verses, which before long is cut by a prominent female vocal to bring in the drop. This track is the perfect example of Ominous‘ production style and is met by a rather cheeky halftime switch on the breakdown which is always welcomed at your local Off-License.
In third place we have ’45’, without debate, this one goes straight in with an eerie atmosphere and it isn’t long before it decides to take a dive into the deeper end of the Drum & Bass spectrum. Clicky drums and percussion are met with a dark rolling sub bass which compliments the fluttery, warping harmonics that can be heard ringing throughout the backstage of the mix.
To close off the EP we have what some may consider the heaviest track of the lot, aka ‘Begone’. Before bringing back that dancefloor energy, the track starts off with that uneasy atmosphere that Ominous seems to be making a signature style. An echoing vocal guides the listener through the intro, before coming through with the ol’ left, right, goodnight when the drop hits. Heavy rolling drums are paired with a ruthless fuzz bass to make for a fast paced track that would tear apart any dancefloor it graces.
Today we premiere ’45’ which you can check out below. The ‘Section 8’ EP lands on Off-License on 18th May, you can grab yourself a copy using the purchase button beneath the Soundcloud player!
