Mrk-One drops ‘Spooked Out’ EP on Rollout Records

After a brief pause in production and a passion revitalized over lockdown, Mrk-One returns to the Drum & Bass community with the sublime 4 track ‘Spooked Out’ EP on Rollout Records.

Mrk-One first began to discover his love for Drum & Bass in 2014, inspired by the sounds of producers such as Alix Perez who was regularly producing deep techy cuts around this era. This passion for Drum & Bass led to Mrk-One beginning his first venture: Beers and Bass.

He co-founded Beers and Bass in 2017, with the aim of bringing a high-quality underground D&B night to the streets of High Wycombe. This quickly evolved into investing in his own sound system and inviting D&B heavyweights such as Skeptical and Bredren to come and play.

Soon after, Mrk-One turned his focus to production, with popular free downloads and an early release on ‘Gun Fingers’ with fellow producer and good friend Shadows‘ However, Drum & Bass has not always been his only passion, Mrk-One has also been involved in Hip Hop, including a production for Jimmy Circa in 2020.

Mrk-One kicks off his debut EP with title track ‘Spooked Out ‘ – a true ‘steppa’ with a steady evolving deep, techy undertone – the trademark Mrk-One
sound. ‘Don’t Go Anywhere’ follows this trend with an ambient intro leading to a deep, growling bassline, with acutely timed progression and drum shuffles throughout. ‘Swamp People’ continues to show Mrk-One’s ability to provide a minimalistic track never lacking in vibe and progression, another perfectly crafted deep bassline that floats over some punchy drums and techy bass shots to make this one to remember. Mrk-One rounds off the EP with ‘Jaded’, featuring the soothing vocals of Prez MC sitting over an smooth evolving bassline, this liquid roller perfectly showcases the young producer’s talent and versatility in production – a definite name to look out for in the future!
