Missing & Trex combine on ‘Brighter Now’ EP on Spearhead
Next up for Spearhead Records is an absolutely banging new EP from Missing and Trex entitled ‘Brighter Now’ EP. The release features 4 huge tracks that will get any junglists juices flowing!
Trex and Missing linked through Missing‘s releases on the Trust Audio imprint that Trex runs. They met up for one of the last gigs before lockdown and had one of those “5th pint chats” about making some music together. Spearhead had already been in conversation with Missing about a possible EP so this seemed like a great focus for the duo and a top label for a collaboration project. Many video sessions, WhatsApp threads and files back and forth during lockdown and the ‘Brighter Now’ EP was created.
Trex and Missing are both proud born and raised Londoners and see the melting pot of the world’s most diverse city as the ultimate canvas and inspiration for their music. With this EP they wanted to bring their musical styles together in a way that enhanced each other’s sound while keeping the motifs and influences they are known for. There are the nods to film soundtracks, old Chicago house piano riffs sitting alongside deep techy basslines that switch up with subby junglistic swagger and clattering breaks. Every track is meant to take you on a journey but link together like the different acts of a film. We think it’s an original sounding EP yet still sounds unmistakably both Missing and Trex. Who said good things don’t come from 5 pint conversations?! https://youtu.be/cjAxbaOOX3A
Trex is a London based artist that has established himself as one of the most exciting producers within Drum & Bass of late. Having released on MAC2, Sofa Sound, Audio Porn, Dispatch and his own label Trust Audio. In recent times his work is played and listened to by peers and listeners across the spectrum of D&B.
Remixing DJ Zinc ‘Bubble’ (which we premiered) and releasing his second album ‘Fifteen Doors‘ on Randall‘s Mac2 Recordings in 2020 were landmark moments for Trex, cementing his reputation as one of the most versatile and technically gifted producers out there. Expect to hear a lot more from Trex in 2021 with a bunch of exciting remixes and releases signed off on Critical, Spearhead and Ram and a bunch of thrilling collabs in the pipeline.
Missing is part of the original jungle foundation in the early 90s and a member of the legendary Kemet Crew. All junglists will know ‘The Box Reopens’ (his remix of Human Beings ‘The Box Opens’ which he made in 1994 when just 18 years old and is a certified jungle anthem that still smashes up sound systems today. After some years away from DnB production he returned in 2017 and has had a steady stream of releases on Hospital Records including collaborations with Dynamite, DRS and Degs plus his own label Sub System where he has dropped a slew of modern Jungle bangers. With his music gaining support from big names such as High Contrast, Nu:Tone, Friction, Andy C, Harriet Jaxxon and Bailey; Missing has a diverse musical style that looks to the future but keeps the original jungle spirit alive.
