Manikin drops ‘Brought Into Focus EP’ on Soul Lab
The next release for Soul Lab comes from Australian DJ and Producer Manikin who delivers a two track EP entitled ‘Brought Into Focus EP’. This latest musical, soulful and boundary breaking accomplishment has come at the perfect time for Soul Lab.
Hailing from Perth in Western Australia, Manikin has been involved in music in one form or another since Primary School. He has played in Punk and Hardcore bands on guitars and drums before finding his calling in Drum & Bass. This came around 6 years ago after meeting Ekko & Sidetrack and other people involved in the scene down under. Manikin has worked on projects for other labels like Lifestyle, Mainframe, Delta9 and more. What really stands out when going through his previous releases, is his work on Reece and sound design, it’s as distinctive as it’s dirty. Yet he often finds a way to keep soul and melody flowing harmonically with the grittiness of his bass sounds.
Now he steps up with this release on Soul Lab. Our premiere today is the lead track ‘Brought Into Focus’. Manikin has created something that really does bring a crisp synergy of both grit and soulfulness into full effect. Upon listening, it takes your soul on a ride for the first minute, into a zone of pure bliss, building up to the first climactic moment where it all falls into place. Rolling drums and powerful sub carries the mind into the first section of the drop. Between all this beauty, some hints of aggression get teased, as the ride evolves to the second section of the first drop. That’s where the whole ride is thrown into high gear. The madness reveals itself, as that distinctive sound design of the scientist gets centre stage. Without losing its harmony with the track so far, Maniki forces you to put a bass face on, as you try to hold back the screams of both excitement and acknowledgement for this scientist’s creativity.
‘Brought Into Focus EP’ is out via Soul Lab on 29th February. Check it out below and grab it from here
