MAE917 drops his new EP ‘Escape’
Rewind a couple of months ago and you’ll remember our introduction to Vancouver based MAE917 aka Arturo Zamudio, a Mexican/American record producer, remixer, instrumentalist and DJ currently making waves in the scene.
He actively follows artists like Reso, QZB, Phentix, Au5 and Square-Pusher. In love with the wubby bass and high reverb snares MAE917 holds an unrelinquishing thirst to continually produce his next level of deep ethereal beats. Introducing his latest self-released EP, ‘Escape’.
The first track ‘Escape’ introduces us with a start of sweet solemnity building into unique glitch led, beat catching techy melody. Stunning lead keys groove in a vastness of sonorous bass, led by deep driving breaks and drumlines.
Catching chills with track 2, ‘Cloud Capped’, MAE917s etheric atmospherics are back interlaced with dimension expanding strings and expertly placed synth leads. Breaking down the DnB into the space vibe he is known for, with a drop of old skool breaks, keeping it fresh before plateauing into a drum led rising melody.
‘Transmission’ heeds nostalgia of the Dubstep scene instantaneously with fierceness in its form. Dramatic bass throbs litter an urbanesque soundscape, turning over a deep tune and slick breakdown with crisp percussive elements and shredding futuristic overlays.
Firing it up, for our premiere is ‘Not Our Time’ which starts with heady etherealism before dropping into badboy solid DnB. Soaring on the organic drumlines the vocals elate ready for the break, a powerful melodic roller sweeping in with the crest of MAE917s spacey atmospherics.
And lastly ‘With you’, a bonus track on the EP a throwback on the UKG 2-step sound combined with a Burial style ambience. Resonating throughout with pitch perfect strings, a rich and emotional tone engulfs the waves, uplifting with slick basslines and skippy drumbeats.
This EP is sure to keep the Winter gloom away with its uplifting warmth and energetic drum structures.
